Masters of the Porn Domain
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has put off for a month the decision to approve the .xxx suffix for porn sites on the web. Department of Commerce official Michael Gallagher reported that the agency had receieved an avalanche of mail expressing concern about normalizing the Web's vigorous porn traffic under its own domain suffix and ensuring that underage computer users would be adequately shielded from the adult sites. Also, the AP reports:
The chairman of ICANN's Government Advisory Committee, Mohd Sharil Tarmizi, also wrote ICANN officials last week urging delay and expressing "a strong sense of discomfort" among many countries, which he did not name.
As recently deputized ambassdors without portfolio to the Republic of Assfuckia, we at Wonkette HQ appreciate Tarmizi's discretion. -- HOLLY MARTINS
