Not previously known for his veep vetting skills, Ralph Nader has said that he advised John Kerry to select John Edwards or Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt as his running mate. Nader explained his choices by saying that Edwards and Gephardt are "very careful. . . They're not going to cause him any embarrassment. And they do bring an additional voter support for him." Of course he'd say that. If a vice-presidential candidate caused Kerry embarrassment or cost him votes, what would be left for Ralph to do?
