Obama Won’t Veto Law That Turns Military Into ‘Domestic Police Force’
Hooray, the White House now says that President Obama won't veto the National Defense Authorization Act. Itflew through the House today and should pass the Senate shortly. Along with the usual gazillion dollars for the Pentagon to buy death machines from military contractors via lobbyists/former members of Congress, the NDAA will also allow the military to seize U.S. citizens on U.S. soil and throw them in Gitmo forever. Remember how the terror prison at Guantanamo Bay was originally filled, after 9/11? And remember how a fraction of the prisoners held and tortured there for years had anything to do with Al Qaeda, because they were just random goat herders or whatever, picked up because the military and the CIA paid a per-head bounty on "terrorists"? Yeah well same thing now, but in the United States!
Everybody excited about the 2012 elections, and football? From AP via the Huffington Post:
WASHINGTON — The White House on Wednesday abandoned its threat that President Barack Obama would veto a defense bill over provisions on how to handle suspected terrorists as Congress raced to finish the legislation. Press secretary Jay Carney said last-minute changes that Obama and his national security team sought produced legislation that "does not challenge the president's ability to collect intelligence, incapacitate dangerous terrorists and protect the American people."
Based on the modifications, "the president's senior advisers will not recommend a veto," the White House said.
Don't worry! Once all the Internet sites that complain about this are shut off by the same U.S. government, you won't even know what's going on until your cousin or neighbor or child gets hauled off in the night by black-suited terror soldiers. Besides, the kid/neighbor/cousin was probably guilty of reading Orwell or something similar, like "looking at Arab porn" or "thinking about joining #OWS." [HuffPo/AP]
