The Yellow Vest protests are spreading and being co-opted by alt-right Islamophobic assholes in the UK and Canada, and merging with QAnon idiots who think gay people have a conspiracy to create a New World Order.
OK, so I love Steven Brust's writing. For those who are unfamiliar with him, he wrote the excellent Vlad Taltos series. Anyway, I follow him on the Twitter-twat machine and the other day he posted this:
to which I replied, well, more-or-less. Either build up a third party from the local level up to national (vice showing up once every four years with a practically unelectable candidate), or you can join the party that's closest to your values and push it in the direction you want. Heck, worked for the evangelicals, amirite? Anyway, he came back with a picture of a Yellow Vest march, in what appeared to be a positive example of what he thought we needed here. So as an aside, I linked an article from New Republic that pointed out the rampant antisemitism and alt-right shit going on in it, and his response was this:
This isn’t even about his getting his way is it? It’s just a grift. The new business that started up in order to manage the festivities of the inauguration buried 40 million. How much did Zinke’s buddy’s magical overnight construction firm make off the Puerto Rico gig? Imagine how fraught with possibilities 5+ billion and no oversight would be.
Oh, I agree with letting professionals handle these things. And good on security who kept guests and employees safe. And even educated people do the stupidest things with wildlife. My parents, both with Masters Degrees, thought it would be cute to put my baby brother on a bear cub's back in Yosemite and snap a pic. Luckily, Mama wasn't aware.
The key to fasting is sleeping all the time... I actually did an impromptu 24 hour fast, which involved a flight from NC to CA. By about 11 the next day I was flopping and discombobulated. My co workers kept asking: When can you eat again? Coz you need it...
