The middle-aged and senior people I know do not have idle hands. They are very active with volunteering, traveling, quilting, fishing, reading, gardening, hiking, crafting, RVing, church activities, art and music festivals, etc. They are not interested in sitting in front of a computer, or staring at a little telephone screen in their hands all day long. If they want to communicate with other people they use the telephone. Some of them don't even own a computer, or their children bought them one but they refuse to use it. The seniors I know are so busy that they mainly use the calendar feature on their computers or smart phones, if they have one, so they can keep up with their busy schedules.

Actually I find a good number of upper-middle aged folks to be very active online. Idle hands (aka retirement) are the devil's playthings.
