Okay, let's say that the combined tax increases bring in not just $72 billion, but over four times that. Call it $320 billion. That's still only 10% of M4A, with no money to spend on anything else.

AO-C says it's better to be morally right than factually right, but she's wrong about that. A person who is factually right but operating out of poor motives might still accidentally do the right thing. But a person who is morally right but factually wrong will not be able to achieve any of their goals, and in fact is likely to get in the way.

And then of course there is the demagogue, who sells snake oil and tells the rubes that it's for morally-right ends. It's about time we started holding progressive leaders to a fact-based approach, to figure out who is sincere about wanting to fix things and who just likes having a fan club that's easy to fleece.
