Pillory me all you want, if you are going to print up t-shirts that say "Poor People's Army," get the fukking punctuation right.

I can make a grammatical case for no punctuation, depending on the meaning. I agree with you that your preference is more likely what is meant.

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

Please make the case, I suppose you could use it as an attributive nominal adjective but that does not seem right. I can see a case for "Peoples'," but that lends it an international/ethnic flair that I do not think is intended.

Yes, you have to assume the plural is intentional, but I disagree that it is not intended to include all of the many peoples who make up the United States. The ruling class has tried to divide them into warring groups to keep infighting their focus rather than banding together against their common oppressor. From there it is a short hop to seeing this as the army of all of the poor peoples rather than the army for the people who are poor.

The "no war" stuff means "Surrender Dorothy" as far as Ukraine is concerned.

Great /s

So now I suppose I should both look up where Code Pink said "no war" and I need to look up what "Surrender Dorothy" refers to and all the cultural context I assume will come with that rabbit hole.

Never mind, I don't care *that* much. I just wanted to ask if there was a reason tegrat was attacking an ally on an unrelated front. It is this kind of infighting why the world is such a shithole, when you can't even protest together with someone you disagree with on an entirely unrelated issue.

Here's a relevant anecdote:

"I’ll never forget the night when a white guy in a Black and white group together, white guy stood up, and he said — He used the N-word, and he said, if that’s what these N’s are marching for, I’m going to march with him. And one of the Panthers walked over to him, put his arm around him and said, yes, brother, we are marching together. And after that, the guy stopped using the word, by the way."

By Marc Steiner, who I don't know and have no opinion on, this is just meant as a source, I mention this because I know exactly what kind of hypercritical culture causes the backstabbing of allies and how those cultures respond to quotes from actual humans instead of carefully curated community approved pass phrases that have been purity-tested for absolute conformity.

"Surrender Dorothy" = "Wizard of Oz"

I find the opposition to the Ukraine aid disgusting and indicative of other problems with their view. Same reason I do not make common cause with the Nazis who oppose Trump.

Local MAGA Man Just Wants More Freedom to Take Away All Your Freedoms

After heated political rhetoric about conservatives’ Project 2025 plans allegedly led to political violence over the weekend when former president Donald Trump was almost assassinated, today one local MAGA man wanted everyone to know all people like him are looking for is the freedom to take away all your freedoms.

“The media and left-wing politicians have gone too far in villainizing people like me for supporting Trump—look, I’m just an ordinary guy who openly supports the end of any semblance of American democracy and the beginning of an uber-patriarchal theocratic Christian fascist state,” said longtime MAGA man Ben Reich. “Is that really so bad? I just want to be able to restrict a woman’s right to birth control, be able to force her to have my baby even if I raped her, control her ability to get a fairly paid job, and make it nearly impossible to divorce me if I don’t want a divorce. Everyone needs to just chill. At the end of the day, we’re all just humans who together will one day start every day kissing a framed nightstand photo of Dear MAGA Leader.”

Reich said he hopes the media stops exaggerating and maligning the reputation and intentions of people like him who he says are merely on a patriotic quest to have more freedom to control everything about the lives of people who are not Christian white males.

The heavy metal magazines in the 1980s used to run confessional letters by former haters of the genre, saying they abandoned new wave once they actually gave metal a listen. I used to suspect that the letters were fake. Wouldn’t be surprised if Vance wrote such a letter about Trump.
