Hey, did anyone notice whether police in uniforms showed up to your peaceful protest on April 5th? Folks I know who went to the Boston protest noted that if the police were there, they were in plain clothes. VIPs, including the Lt. Governor were there for speeches, but uniforms weren't seen. How about you?

They want Berlin 1939.

Let's give 'em Paris 1789!!!

Sounds I fucking hate, foremost among them: wheels on a bier when there’s a kid in a box. I should clarify. I really fucking hate it.

it would have been helpful if you had just said, “I just took the most perfect picture anyone has ever taken. Come and see.”

Thanks. I caught the light just right.

Pretty good turnout in Huntington Beach, would estimate between 100-200 people demonstrating, but it was the first real beach weather day this year, the schools are on break, plus there was a surf contest AND it was Corgi Beach Day, so quite a crowd regardless!

Given this is one of the favorite locations for SoCal 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘥𝘦𝘯 to hold their regular Shitler rallies, even after the asshole won (BTW, ours was *at least* as large as any they’ve had I have seen, *and* there were several more Hands Øff! protests elsewhere just in OC), I was curious how many might show up; *very* few did, and they either stayed far away—like a block up Main—or well to the back and *very* quiet and low-key.

But you could still spot them easily; they were the obvs dickheads in little knots of three or four, standing with arms folded trying to look tough but clearly intimidated, like so (left of frame; photo from LAist): https://tinyurl.com/5eb48xwm

Guess they forgot to grab the red headgear when they left the trailer this morning! (I only saw two red hats the whole day, and both didn’t stick around long; one was a middle age gal in cutoff jeans and cowboy boots carrying a megaphone she never uttered so much as a peep with.)

Then there was this wanker 𝘏𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘫𝘶𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥 pissant, apparently inspired to emulate Elon Musk’s commanding stage presence and rizz by bouncing through the crowd like a dork yelling “I LOVE TRUMP” over and over (from Voice of OC): https://shorturl.at/6RJch A real putz.

Other than that and the usual random trolls driving by on PCH, no bad vibes, and overwhelmingly a positive, if not party atmosphere; but did I mention it was also CORGI BEACH DAY?!

The only thing about the Washington Monument is the symbolism. It's always bothered me 🫤 for some reason!

The NY Times ran an opinion piece today "The Conversation", I believe, with one person referring to the Hands Off movement as virtue signaling and merely gestures.

I've put up with a lot from NYT, but that was it. Canceled subscription on the spot. and told them precisely why, for what little good it would do. Perhaps I was just virtue signaling too, to them.

Whatever. It's just an ivory tower full of dolts and droids.

As an English Major and lifelong Word Nerd, I enjoy clever verbiage as much as the next person.

That said, I got a bang out of the sign that someone posted on social media with the VP, Acting President, and VVP's faces.

Under t666p's face, it said "Felon".

Under EHEN MILK's face, it said, "Unelected".

Under Vance's face, it simply said, "NO".

"People have become gripped with fear when speaking to the press. Many now feel concerned about publicly voicing their dislike of Trump, or the fascist movement spreading like an uncontrollable cancer in nations across the world. "

A Mexican commentator on the US demos noted that the US also has more guns than people, and things could get very, very scary there.

While I would of course never advocate for violence, it is only fair to point out that the country that has spent at least the last 50 years putting guns into the hands of every American it could get a hold of does not seem to have considered that not ALL of those people are on their side, and not ALL of them will act in predictable/controllable ways.

I don't know if this is somewhere in the comments (apologies if so), but, my small city in very conservative TX had around 200 people show up for a location that was only added a week ago. The vast underreporting of the numbers for the protest has me fuming. This video sums up my frustration: https://youtu.be/XKBYqhXFUWg?si=BQpGHz-Tw2ZyIner.

Excellent summary. I'm confident that the US total was well over a million. I too was enraged at the deflated numbers reported by many outlets. I was at the Esther Short protest and have no experience counting crowds, but the park was packed. A thousand people was my guess. Lots of good signs and energy. More elders than others, but it was fun to see kids attending their first protest.

And, even in Seneca Falls, NY...

Be nice to see if the MAGATs could organize and pull off those numbers. Ha! Orange Buffoon would reward them all with McDonalds.
