Reporter asks if guns are allowed in the Brown dorms. Police chief/head of security at Brown steps up to the podium and simply says: 'FUCK NO!' and leaves it at that. (Okay, I'm paraphrasing a bit.)
Probably won't be able to persuade, certainly not drag, the doggo Babby Frances in from the yard til Monday. Finally got real lake effect treatment (snow, cold, wind) this year.
I realize that I was taking pictures of this task because I could imagine myself into this time when I am done and I am sharing the pictures with you.
When I stack the wood in the fall, I leave an access port to the front of the house, just for the task that I’m doing today. I had to pull the bark totes out, and loosen the hooks holding the tarp to the wall and then I was able to slip through to the front.
The pictures show the before and the halfway. I am currently on a contractually obligated break while my toes warm. My brain was trying to talk me into finishing the job, but my toes were saying you’re pretty dumb for a brain. Also, I had made that decision beforehand that I was going to stop before it got difficult.
I’m a little disappointed that I couldn’t get the snow up higher. My goal is usually to get it to the windowsill. However, once there’s some snow in that gap, a lot of times a good storm will fill it in. But if I don’t have that gap filled, for some reason, it stays empty. The strip of green flashing at the bottom covers the foundation, which is exposed to the cold. But covering it with the snow, like this makes a big difference in how warm the floor stays, and surprisingly the room inside.
This isn’t the ideal snow for doing it. It’s a little too granular. But it’ll get the job done. I’m gonna go out there before it gets dark and finish, and that will feel good to have it done.
ETA also, that picture of the snow that was swept off the upper deck is why I leave the rigging out space. Otherwise I’d have to walk around that big pile and I know the pile doesn’t look very big here, but it actually is. And then that other picture of the window is cats because there’s gonna be cats.
I totally understand the insulating properties of snow. I did the same when I lived in the high mountains. Then in the spring as snow would melt away from the house, I'd shovel it back in to hasten the melt.By mid-May, it was usually all gone.
Those windows bounce a lot of sunlight off of them, so I never have to worry about the snow melting back into the foundation. That’s usually the first place that the snow goes away.
I’ve heard snow called poor man’s insulation. Yeah whatever.
That's twice in two months, which must be a sign of the apocalypse. This was C of E this time to go see a concert thinger that my mum wanted to go to. It's her birthday.
It was a choral concert with no instruments (actually, not true, one song did have kazoos in it - not joking). It was in a beautiful old church built in the 13th, 14th and 15th Centuries. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Cross_Church,_Bearsted
The acoustics were incredible.
Also they served wine and snacks at the interval.
I mean, I could have done without all the religious stuff (how many songs are there about little babby jebus?) but it really was good.
I wasn't joking about the kazoos. They did a kinda choral remix of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjPm0o04lGE (I want a hippopotamus for Christmas) without any instruments apart from random kazoos and it was pretty awesome.
Can't help hearing the first line as “I went to church today, oh boy. The English Army had just won the war. A crowd of people turned away. But I just had to look. Having read the book."
LOL, thank you Raccoon, I should probably not mention you walked the length of Manhattan in the totally WRONG SHOES! Love you my friend, that is why we can tease each other!
You should know that we are thinking thoughts, which involves shaking of heads, possibly even looking over glasses perched on bridge of nose, maybe followed by a small sigh.
And then the shocking realization that we have now become those people who do that.
"However..." -- I'm sorry to hear that there will still have to be extensive litigation to move other wind projects ahead.

There's an active shooter at Brown University:

as of now (7:05pm eastern), shooter still at large.
Reality bites. And if you ignore it, it bites again, harder.
Doing an early solstice thing because people’s schedules. Maria again nominated herself as an ornament.

The drummer definitely has the rock n’ roll attitude down.
They like Star Wars and Led Zeppelin. They're good with me.

The stacked wood by itself looks like a wall I'd like to have in my apartment.
Between the wood and the tarp that hangs over on that side, it really does make a difference in keeping the house warmer.
Not to mention, it’s really nice to just step out there fill up a sled load of wood and pull it right into the house.
Have we gotten official word on who we’re going to blame for the shooting? Is it immigrants or trans people? Or the old stand by, Biden?
It was obviously Antifa. And his roommate ID'd him to the police.
I'm sure the Brown shooter is definitely antifa...
Are you president trump? And if not, how do you know?
I went to church today, oh boy.

Kazoos, eh? Did you run amok in Kent?
Can't help hearing the first line as “I went to church today, oh boy. The English Army had just won the war. A crowd of people turned away. But I just had to look. Having read the book."
That was kinda deliberate!
Sorry if I stomped on it, some of us need cues!
I'm just glad someone got it!
The last time I went to church was in Salisbury Cathethral. It was evensong, and it was in one of the side churches. It was honestly lovely.
Evensong is the best mass.
Was Mr. Eno anywhere about?
Luring you with a good concert- that's how they GETCHA!
Someone pointed out the C o E have prayers for everything. Today somebody posted a prayer for sub zero weather.
Pro, or anti?
Lol, a call to watch over those who work, travel, and to look after the unhoused, but not cross country skiers for Biblical reasons.
Did they have their underpants on, or no?

Likewise
I take it that there will be no movie tonight, what with ziggy damn near dying on the freeway. I'm just glad that they are okay.
The show must go on! I know this crew, they would keep Movie Night going even if i didn't show and i love that so very much.
I just got in. Please tell me you're going to be okay. I had an awful day, I couldn't bear to lose a friend too.
I am safe and home now. Just took a ride sideways in the wrong lane of traffic.
WHAT?!?
Ziggy is liking all our comments in real time.
Weird, right?
Oh jeez. I hope they’re okay.
I will be hosting. We are watching, Charlton Hestin do a dramatic read of the entire King James Bible.
You are welcome. Glad Ziggy survived her first Midwest "Oh my god, the weather is trying to kill me" experience.
They can now share the story around the fire pit.
LOL, thank you Raccoon, I should probably not mention you walked the length of Manhattan in the totally WRONG SHOES! Love you my friend, that is why we can tease each other!
Is this when those of us who told her to stock up, hunker down, and stay off the balcony and get to shake our heads and think thoughts?
My lame ass excuse is that I was assured by the locals that it was totally fine.
You should know that we are thinking thoughts, which involves shaking of heads, possibly even looking over glasses perched on bridge of nose, maybe followed by a small sigh.
And then the shocking realization that we have now become those people who do that.
Huh what?
Home safe!
Scroll down.
Ziggy said nothing about cancelling the movie, did they?
I will do a movie night from the grave! *they (but it is all good!)
Fixed, thanks!
thank you
Not that I heard, but have been using table saw so there is that.
Well it's *something.*
