Another way I have figured out, is to look at who is endorsed by the local tea party and Evangelical church, and cross them off the list I also look @ the LGBTQ sites and see if they have any opinion on the candidates.

Texas, specifically banned the teaching of critical thinking, on the basis that it might conflict with parental authority.

I liked giving platelets. It always felt like I was doing something good for someone else. I can’t do it anymore because it drops my core temperature and I feel terrible for days after so I just donate whole blood.

I lived (or rather resided) in Iowa back in the 1990s, and remember the Christian Coalition becoming politically important exactly through this tactic. Too many on the (tiny) US left pay too much attention to major elections and offices, and aren't willing to invest in bottom up politics.

I urge friends and coworkers to donate but I get the "I don't like needles". Then those same people will donate plasma for a few extra bucks. *sigh*

Teach that in a state with a Republican governor ... and he will most likely nod approvingly.

Hmm...A good example of a lack of critical thinking - something that kids need,,,

"The School Board Watchlist (SBWL)" - ok, so you either change the initials to SBW, but people might think that ol' Charlie has a thing for Single Black Women (thanks, back page of the Village Voice!), OR you keep the initials and make it the School Board Watch List - both forms are correct.

Before I saw this, I noted above that it should've been SBW since the turd spelled it Watchlist, or should have named It Watch List, if he wanted that acronym.I do hope the real SBWL sues the shit out of him.

And yet they annoy the fuck out of me, because, looking at their magazine they seem to think that everybody loves the same bullshit that they loved 50 years ago and ONLY the same shit they loved 50 years ago. Couldn't be more wrong in my case.

Was there something with, like, a tower involved. Like maybe a Tower of Babble or Blather?

there is solace in knowing that those kids from rural areas go off to Big Donor State, learn that life has more to offer than what they grew up with in whatever repressive 3 stoplight town they emerged from, and they never look back.

I'm sure that many just want another arena where they think they can bulldoze their way through. Petty displays of power are a very enticing drug.
