Here is Zuckerberg pledging to align his platforms with Trump's propaganda needs.

What is most chilling:

—The removal of fact checkers?

—The explicit promise to "work with President Trump"?

For me it's this one: "Move our trust and safety and content moderation teams out of California, and our US content review to Texas. This will help remove the concern that biased employees are overly censoring content."

I still had a seldom used account there until I read the "news" this morning. It ain't easy to do, but I managed to delete my account. They asked "why", and I said they're too Nazi adjacent for my tastes.

Peaceful grandmothers are so misunderstood. Who can forget the German granny tour groups of 1939/40 who just wanted to see a little bit of Europe and maybe pick up some souvenirs to show the folks back home? I expect if you did your own research you'd discover that most of the folks at the Capitol on Jan 6 were just there for the afternoon on an AARP sponsored tour.

Just saying: there is a name for this: Stab in the back myth

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stab-in-the-back_myth

It was a major factor in the end of the German Weimar Republic 100 years ago.

The fact that Biden wasn't hell bound to find an AG hell bound to go after all the traitors on day 1 ... was the sole biggest mistake of Biden and his government.

I am not talking about political prosecution, but about putting the full power of the US DoJ behind hunting down every single participant and LEADER of the insurrection, without mercy.

Of course without violating their rights, but also without giving them any special positive treatment.

Object lesson to the world.

This is why you do not let nazis control large platforms under the guise of free speech. This is what you get.

And no, it wasn't the ice and snow that made Rep Foxx fall. She did it inside, on the grand staircase outside the House Chamber. https://www.wxii12.com/article/virginia-foxx-fallhouse-chamber-capitol-washington-dc/63333740

She's fine. But she's also 81 so this is going to lead to a bunch more "Congress is too old" stories, most likely.

When Pelosi fell, the asswipes at Not-Very-Bright-Bart were having a field day laughing about it. After Foxx fell, I figured they would be all concerned so I went armed with comments I had scraped and saved, but they were having a field day laughing about Foxx falling. So apparently its not political; they just think old women falling down is funny.

Thatsit Fortheotherwon's avatar

I thought it was funny too. When I was nine.

I got distracted when he assumed soldiers are (or should be considered) normal.

And I have to note, the OG KKK domestic terrorists were military veterans. I bet they seemed normal, too.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

most soldiers are pretty normal and cover a large swath of life. In my time I've known uber leftie soldiers, uber rightie soldiers, and soldiers from every tick on the curve in between.

Though I would argue that the OG KKK were not normal, even for soldiers, seeing as they were veterans for a cause that only existed to keep human beings as property.

Bobathonic, Dingus Crusher's avatar

Soldiers are a small proportion of society. The part of it that makes them soldiers is pretty unusual.

No insults to vets intended, I've worked with and known a number of vets, and as you note, they generally reflect society. Still, it's not normal to be a soldier. There shouldn't be some expectation that being a soldier equates to normal, or turns abnormal people normal. Soldier training won't turn people normal, it turns them into soldiers.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

Well, in that vein, Archaeologists are not normal, because there are not a lot of us, and all it does is turn people into archaeologists.

It's just as normal as any other occupation I should think? Albeit with shooting things and blowing stuff up.

But no, it certainly does not turn abnormal people into normal people. I remember back in the day the old threat if one acted up was Getting Sent To Military School To Straighten You Out because they thought what those kids were lacking was discipline. Which is not of course what it was for the most part.

Bobathonic, Dingus Crusher's avatar

I'd bet one amero that archaeology has a significantly lower rate of jerb-induced PTSD than soldiering does.

Thatsit Fortheotherwon's avatar

I'll cover you for another $100K.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

edit: btw, not not normal because they were on the gray side mind, but not normal because once lost, they had to justify in their heads the upheaval of their life, loss of comrades, and otherwise make themselves out to be the good guys in their story, hence the kkk. It's a human brain thing, in this case taken to extremes

Bobathonic, Dingus Crusher's avatar

But it illustrates my point that soldiering doesn't equate to normal. Why should we expect it to? Are we ALL supposed to be trained for war? THAT'S normal?

I was hoping for a civilization.

Thatsit Fortheotherwon's avatar

Telling somebody to potentially take a round through the gut IS normal if you look at most countries on the globe.

I'm searching for a reason not to go into town tomorrow. I'm on telework and only have to go in Wed and Thurs, and Thurs became a day off.
