I agree with most of that but I would note that our police work in a world with almost unfettered access to arms. There is no reason to be deploying the heavy armor against peaceable protesters, let alone executing kids in the street, but I wouldn't want to deny the police a trump card parked back in the garage the next time they're facing a wacko with a grudge, a bunker, and a shitload of guns.
