"the first country in the world to enshrine the right to abortion in their constitution " - no. Yugoslavia did it in 1974. Of course, that country doesn't exist anymore.
Lemme just point this one out: "a crime against state security, as France’s birth rates were lower than its neighbors."
That, right there? That is a prime example, along with Mussolini's "motherhood medals," of forced-birth and population-increase policies being nativist policies being fascist policies. The duty of *biological labor to the state* (nation, people, volk) falls on women, who are tasked with providing more [insert ethnicity] babies for the state/nation/people, and is the overriding concern of the state. Overriding what? Bodily autonomy.
The fascist state says: there are more of Them in their state than there are of Us in ours! Soon there will be more of Them in our state! This is an emergency!
A second spot features a granddaughter getting ready to drive her grandmother home when the grandmother starts reminiscing about being the granddaughter’s age. “Back then I was a sex expert,” the grandmother says. “They used to call me Buttered Biscuit,” she adds before offering her granddaughter advice on birth control. The granddaughter winces.
Not to nitpick, but you absolutely MUST include Tunisian/French attorney Gisèle Halimi in any discussion of France's expansion of abortion rights.
Halimi represented Marie-Claire Chevalier (who passed away recently, FYI) and with de Beauvoir was a key organizer of the Declaration of the 343 mostly well-known French women who attested publicly to having had an illegal abortion (other signatories included Catherine Deneuve, Françoise Sagan, Delphine Seyrig, Arianne Mnouchkine). Their public pronouncement pushed repeal of France's anti-abortion laws to the fore - and also resulted in the infamous satirical political weekly Charlie Hebdo referring to the women as the "343 salopes" (the 343 sluts), a moniker the women decided to wear proudly.
Halimi was THE driving force behind repeal of the anti-abortion laws. The key she found to open the lock was in attacking the laws as discriminating against poor women, since rich French women could simply fly out of the country to have abortions. The French courts agreed with Halimi (I'm not sure why this argument has not been made more forcefully with regard to combatting Dobbs, though poor women are hardly given much attention in the U.S. in any way).
Anyway, good for France. Good for kindling renewed hope that this anti-sex, misogynistic scourge of anti-abortionists can be shoved back into the caves out of which they've crawled.
Ta, Robyn. That is a thing of beauty.
If you are an Italian citizen, you can live anywhere in the EU, so yep! Benvenuto in Italia! Bienvenu en France! Failte go hEirinn!

Longue vie à la France! Vive la République !
I think Pee Wee said it best: "Merci blah blah!"

And then your body doesn't belong to you anymore.
Just fyi, Robyn, yes Italian citizens can live freely in France. EU freedom of movement and all that
Another reason to love France besides Jacques Tati!
does bourgogne mean nothing to you?
“Marie-Louise Giraud was executed by guillotine in 1943 for performing 27 abortions.”
Let’s not give the Republicans any ideas, okay?
Women have no balls!

"In my book"? Muh-pleeze, Emmett here is not sure whether a "book" is a circle or a triangle.
Love how he's fondling that gun every couple of seconds. Normal reaction to being approached by a black man?
If he keeps fondling that, it's going to go off.
To be fair, if you look hard enough, you can find someone like that anywhere.
Is that numbskull carrying a gun?
I think what he is saying is that he would support a pre-op trans woman, but supporting someone AFAB is a bridge too far.
Dude with no brain complaining about a lack of testes in women? Good heavens!
Somewhat OT
Does anyone remember seeing this commercial?

Although, maybe this is because I have too severe of spam/malware/advertising restrictions on my DNS . . .
Maybe, because it works fine for me. I've been looking for it for YEARS!
Now if we could just get French women to stop condoning boorish behavior.
Bridget Anne McGrath Ziegler! Where have you been?
Pretty fucking far from it.
Some MAGAt gal on line one for you.

Because in America, disproportionately punishing poor people is a feature, not a bug.
Ancestry has records of people who were executed during the French Revolution. Fascinating.
Liberty, Equality, Sorority!!! Or some such!
