Hmmm . . . covid as a retirement plan. I hadn't thought of that angle. Someone sent me a copy of Mahon's Dream Days, as follows: Dream Days'When you stop to considerThe days spent dreaming of a futureAnd say then, that was my life.'

For the days are long --From the first milk vanTo the last shout in the night,An eternity. But the weeks go byLike birds; and the years, the yearsFly past anti-clockwiseLike clock hands in a bar mirror.

And the poem, or the reading of it, seized me by the hair and dragged my head up off the bar, and forced me to look at my life, and I said oh. I see. And what I saw was that I was spending a hell of a lot of time trying to get everything right, and maybe just a little too much. And I decided to make the best decision I can with the best information I have, and then adapt as I go forward instead of thinking I have to have everything figured out and perfect.

I am still working, and my SSI is impacted by the WEP, with its unpredictable future, but just learned that it only applies after you start drawing the state pension, so by taking it in my FRA year (which is a fine-printy kind of thing I just learned about as well) while I still work, I can at least for awhile get it at the full amount. Which skews everything.

And then I read that poem, went back to the numbers and mathed them until they were whimpering in the corner, and made a decision.
