Ta, Robyn. Neither my husband nor I had children. We're very happy to see our taxes go to universal childcare and public school education. I'm proud of our Mayor and our Governor. Watch the Rapeuglicans try to brand her as Governess Hochul or something.
exactly. the 'ripple effect' is going to show up in things we can't even imagine until they actually happen. Even changes in infrastructure and the way the city is engaged by people will change in cool ways So cool!
As a childless woman married to a childless man, we too, are happy to see our taxes go to positive child and family development. As HS school only graduates we’re ok with forgiving tuition debt. Hell, even if I did pay my way through college I would STILL be happy for the debt forgiveness. As someone who couldn’t afford it I’d be absolutely thrilled to see college free like in Europe. Smarter people make smarter decisions and invest in their communities. Raising people out of poverty also helps me so perhaps I’m not all that altruistic but it is the selfishness that Buddhism talked about. Wanting the best for others just feels good. Too bad others feel like they “didn’t get their fair share” so why should anyone else? It’s incredibly shortsighted in the long run.
And to insult to injury, the people with whom we entrust the care of our children are often unskilled workers who get paid poverty level wages. I know for a fact that some of the women who cared for my child lived in the housing projects and supplemented their income with SNAP and WIC. Same thing at the other end of life, where the caregivers get paid minimal wages, but people have to liquidate their assets to get into a skilled nursing facility.
Bravo, Robyn! You phrased it all better than I can and it just makes good sense to do this, for everyone.
And bravo to Mayor Mamdani and to Governor Hochul! For this program, and for putting aside your differences to work on something that you both agree on for the good of the people.
This is one way to fight back against the evil of trump.
"We benefit from being a community and by taking responsibility for that community."
Apparently, that all depends on your definition of "we". It's clear that the administration and most of those on the right have a different definition, where "we" is only those that support their demented morality ( i.e., are Republicans )
"The White House released a statement saying the President would be taking advantage of the free childcare for his two sons, who 'really aren't much smarter than a three year old.' "
Do you see the way those armed thugs backed the fuck up in the face of her righteous rage? She had her arms up in the air with her poster and just stepped forward. Heroine.

The Reicht: Don’t have babies you can’t afford!!
(Proceeds to fuck up the economy.)
The Reicht: Why aren’t you having more babies??
yeah, they need to fucking pick a lane on that score.
Oh noez! Not the Socilism! Whatever shall all the rich folks do?

This was excellent.
so much awesome content on that!
I had to watch it multiple times just to grasp it all!
That's incredible! 😁

Thanks for the Schadenfreude. LOL

We as a country have to stop looking at providing for our children as an expense. It's an investment. A very cost effective and worthwhile investment.
So is public education and higher ed funding. Can’t refine oil without chemists and engineers. Can’t get it out of the ground without geologists.
I suppose you also believe in public education book learnin’!
They're easy to make and have decent carbon content.
I suggest babies as the fuel product of the future.
As every civilized nation on earth is well-aware.

As Robyn suggests, we all have skin in this game.
Kiddo is way too old to directly benefit from this initiative, but I welcome it for the common good.
This actually seems like a pretty big ray of sunshine to me.
"The White House released a statement saying the President would be taking advantage of the free childcare for his two sons, who 'really aren't much smarter than a three year old.' "
Following that rule , the President qualifies for childcare too.
He's already got it.
This woman is all of us. She is my hero for the rest of my life.

This moved me to tears. So fucking brave. Thanks. 💪🇺🇸💛
They were afraid of her!
There is no fucking reason to point your dick extensions at her, you cowards!
