Books removed from Texas Varner-Hogg plantation for being too focused on slavery
Around two-dozen books were removed from two plantation gift shops' offerings after the Texas Historical Commission received complaints that the titles were too focused on racism and white supremacy, according to a report from Texas Monthly. Michelle Haas, who the magazine described as an "amateur historian," visited the Varner-Hogg plantation an hour south of Houston in September 2022 and emailed complaints to David Gravelle, a commission board member, that the books centered too heavily on slavery at the sugar plantation and not enough on the white Hogg family.
Haas, a Corpus Christi native, is the author of 200 Years a Fraud, in which she disputes what she considers historical inaccuracies in Twelve Years a Slave, an 1853 memoir by Solomon Northup. In her book, Haas argues that U.S. history is overly harsh on the South and doesn't acknowledge that slavery was "a socially acceptable and economically worthwhile practice worldwide at the time our thirteen colonies arose."

I'm putting these reports up from a platform I've been literally screamed at here for posting from not just because they're accessible through there for folks who don't have other resources ... and also because it seems a touch hypocritical for all that screaming to be coming from people who0 seem obdurately opposed to doing literally anything about the repetitive substantive murderous harms I'm posting about and that the correspondents here keep writing about as they keep appearing in the national news in great part because so many "in the middle" prefer to keep pretending "everything is fine" and "everyone has equal civil rights now"

I'd be willing to bet they have no child in the school, and I believe it's a significant possibility that they're not even from that school district.
