Gosh I guess they really have us for good this time, lay down your weapons and you will be given food and treated fairly. Joe stumbles, the media whores gin up the fear, and we take this bullshit seriously. By taking it all too seriously we make matters worse. Take a fucking breath.

I am so tired of people here pissing and moaning. We're gonna be all right, get cher big folx boots on.

Defeatism here is like pissing in America's spiritual pool. You think you're clever but everyone sees the water and the expanding yellow cloud surrounding that swimsuit.

Show some courage.

If "caucasity" isn't a word it should be .

I bet caucasity smells like mendacity.

In my experience (as a white cis male) it usually smells like a mix of cigarette breath, body crevices that haven't been washed in over a week, and yellowing underpants that haven't been washed for even longer

The condition of sounding like (and being as annoying as) an angry crow.

I understand crows sit on phone lines so they can make long-distance caws.

Did you know that before crowbars crows had to do all their drinking at home?

The only way I would celebrate this country tomorrow would be if Convicted Felon dropped dead today. Otherwise, America can continue to go fuck itself sideways without my participation in celebrations of our determination not to make it to 250 years of independence.

Gee, that's too bad. Enjoy yourself.

The go-to out for R politicians and SC nominees when they don't want to answer a question that will reveal their true goals is "I'm not going to respond to hypotheticals. I wish interviewers would fire back with "Why not? The Supreme Court majority is willing to do just that." Hell, 90% of Coathanger's responses during her nomination hearing was "I can't respond to hypotheticals."

Dubya Bush went to Yale and Harvard. And he's as a dumb as a box of rocks. He still managed to become President for two terms. Whitey has the whole system nicely skewed in their favour.

As a white person, I see this.

Yeah, it's pretty remarkable that we're supposed to ignore literally three decades of successful class action lawsuits about discrimination in hiring and promotions across countless American institutions and corporations... the idea that we now exercise any kind of turn about to resolve CENTURIES of systemic white privilege and that somehow constituting "the real racism" just makes me want to punch AG Mitchell and aggrieved mediocre white guys everywhere.

Unless my professor can show me he graduated with a degree in White Pride from Trump University, I can't see what he could possibly teach me.

Those fuckers.

My niece-in-law teaches administrative law at a top law school. She clerked for Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court and has continued on a stunningly successful trajectory. She is brilliant and highly accomplished, and also is female.

Weirdly, women can actually be the best at things in the real world, and not just in Barbie-land.

The Right has been quietly (for the most part) stuffing the courts with sympathetic judges for years. And now they are making all their moves. They played the long game; unfortunately, we did not.

At least Biden has been putting lots of Federal judges in position for the past 3 years.

Students at fake university in Michigan created by ICE can sue US, court rules. https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/oakland/2024/07/03/court-students-at-fake-michigan-university-set-up-by-ice-can-sue/74228675007/

Idea was to lure foreigners who sought admission to US colleges to secure visas to stay in the US.

“This decision is not just a legal win, but a moral one," Prudhivi Raj, a student at the university, said Friday in a statement. "It underscores that no one, not even the government, is above the fundamental principles of fairness and honesty. ... We are grateful for this outcome and remain steadfast in our commitment to justice."

What a sentiment. How last week.

I'm sure Judge Kaczmaryk or Judge Ho will be happy to find a reason why their court, and not a liberal hippie Illinois court, is the proper venue for this piece of garbage.

I have a feeling broader statistics and metrics would prove illuminating. If just 3 of 21 recent hires were white men, what's the overall faculty percentage? If it's more than 31%, they're overrepresented. How about outcomes? Are the percentage of students who pass the bar on the first try going up or down as the faculty becomes more diverse? What about percentage of students who graduate? Get jobs in their chosen field? Etc, etc.

Expand full comment

Those are the metrics that matter.

I laugh because I graduated from a top flight public university. All my professors were white males. In fact, I never had a female professor or a minority professor there (although I knew one, just one). The white male portion of the population is 31%. That is their ceiling.
