While I'm totally against the death penalty, I might be persuaded for an executions carried out by boring a convicted person to death by employing him or her as a data analyst
Let us be clear. The reason why this man has to die in agony is not because there is no relatively quick and painless and reliable way to execute someone, but because they need a way of executing someone that is sufficiently science-y and sanitised that people enjoy it to watch. It really is that simple.
There are plenty of quick deaths that can be inflicted, which exist and are known to work (certainly why better than this).
Hanging is relatively quick and painless and can be reliably done so as to break the neck. China uses a bullet to the back of the head, killing instantly. Even the freaking guillotine was pretty painless compared to this torture method, even if someone might survive a few moments. The trouble is they don't want to watch anything that looks violent and bloody, and want to play pretend that execution can really be somehow anything else.
I work around compressed nitrogen a lot and generally am told you slowly lose consciousness(all room ventilated and alarmed). I don't understand why they insist on using a mask. Its a prison, that is literally a building full of small rooms how hard would it be to seal one up and skip the vomit to death mask. Or we could try and pretend we are civilized country and not be murderous fucks but its murica ugh.
That is horrific. There is no place in any society for this kind of mengele shit. What happened to the protection from cruel and unusual punishment? Leaving aside the jury recommendation being overridden by the damn judge, they already tried to murder him once and f*cked it up! At that point, you commute the sentence.
Thank f*ck my country got rid of the death penalty. Properly done hanging was more humane than any of the methods that prioritise the comfort of the observers though.
I gotta ask.....given your name, I take it you ride? I'm a roadie kinda guy out in the wide open spaces. Riding innercity in Thailand is suicide......it's bad enough on a scooter......my Cannondale would be shattered carbon......
I am a dedicated bicycle commuter, I have not owned a car since summer, 1993. My commute is about 40 minutes each way in the fairly placid town of Eugene, Oregon. Also, I like to get to school early (4:30 am), so I avoid a lot of the traffic.
Good for you. I used to ride to work once a week, 26 miles out in Fort Stinkin' Desert Palmdale Ca. Hot, dusty, and windy. When I moved to Carlsbad I was doing mostly recreational rides on the Coast. I 1tried to get in 200 miles a week. PCH has lots of traffic but through the beach communities they had those big 'rich people' bike lanes and share-o-lanes that allowed you to ride in traffic.......stlil saw my share of ghost bikes over the years :-(
Funny. A pal of mine was in a wreck many years ago out in eastern Oregon, and when he woke up in the hospital, he asked where he was and they told him "Ontario." My friend, a native New Yawkah, wondered aloud: "How the feck did I get HERE???"
It didn’t go well. At all. But he’s dead, so the Governor and AG were tickled about the failed experiment that was supposed to induce unconsciousness “in seconds” and death “in minutes.” Technically, both those things occurred. 22 minutes total, several minutes of labored breathing and at least a couple minutes of “writhing and gasping.” So, for those who believe the death penalty SHOULD include some suffering, you win. No f’ing way I’d choose suffocating. Few people ever would. Suffocation involves panic. There is very little that is “humane” about it. I’d choose about any other method. Wow.
I'd suggest the Gov. Ivey be present at the execution of Mr. Smith, in as close proximity as possible, but after reading her statement, I'm afraid she'd actually enjoy it. What a damn ghoul. And what a $hitty world we live in where people like Gov. Ivey have life and death power, and gladly choose death. But, based on her political leanings, it surprises me not. Cruelty truly is the point and she and others of her persuasion revel in it.
“ And what a $hitty world we live in where people like Gov. Ivey have life and death power, and gladly choose death“
TRULY! Because Gov Ivey looks like the dullest knife in the drawer on her good days! She’s a simpleton. Even more than the racism and the way we treat poor people and the disturbing way they treat rape victims and victims of child abuse- the one thing I can’t stand about this country is the death penalty.
So the sons really want him executed…and the CHURCH OF CHRIST PASTOR father who did the contract to kill their mother killed himself. If the death of someone actually gave closure the suicide of their father would have done that…but death DOES NOT GIVE CLOSURE. It is just death. The living continue to live with their trauma, their hatred (funny how hate never dies), and their inability to deal with reality. God, I really hate humanity.
I have lost all faith in humanity. Throughout my life other people have done me more harm than good. In the final analysis, everyone is out for themselves, no matter what else they may try to tell you.
I remember watching an episode of The Adventures of Superman where an innocent man was about to be executed by gas, which seemed a little intense at the time but also pointed out a potential flaw when Superman burst into the chamber to free the man mid-execution and the gas began to leak out into the observation area. I doubt Alabama’s going to have to worry about someone busting in, but forgive me if I don’t feel confident that an Alabama prison is going to have the most air tight facility to do this, or have a non-Superman powered way to get the gas safely outside in the event of an emergency.
The thing about executions, other than it's barbarity is that few want to be the one doing it. They want distance and distance causes problems. Things can go wrong. Let's face it, a .9mm slug to the back of the head is effective and humane by execution standards. A version of it has been used for several centuries - it works. But someone has to pull the trigger, that's the hard part. Even in firing squads to alleviate things they might put blanks in 4 of 5 rifles so no one knows which gun killed the person. But they are always kept very close so chances of missing altogether are slim. Maybe there would be more closure if a member of the victim's family is given the option of bringing their own gun and taking care of business - just saying. We kill animals all the time, well certain members of society do and we generally don't blink when eating a Big Mac. We find that less brutal but it isn't, not really, it's just more accepted. Maybe if society took the same hands on approach to carrying out an execution it might have some impact on reducing the need for same in the future.
Pro life state ya'll.
No abortions, we're pro life!
No death with dignity! We're pro life!
Execute a guy by making him choke on his own vomit though, that is A-Ok!
Sick fuckers.

Bring on the hanging, drawing, and quartering.

There's a few euthanasia methods that are quick and painless also. But yeah, can't watch the show if they don't suffer.
lynching's and hangings did function as the town entertainment in not so distant history.
This is essentially it. If I had to choose a method for myself, I would go for a well-maintained guillotine. But the PR is terrible on that.

Feral dogs treat each other better........we are just a bunch of brain damaged shit Gibbons........
"Feral dogs treat each other better...."
...until they become governor of Alabama.

The woman reminds me of my grandmother.....meanest bitch I've EVER run across in my 69 years....
Virginia Fox must run a close second (third if we include your grandma)!
Those two hags got nothin' on that nasty German sadist that was my Oma.......

That's horrific and we as a society should be profoundly disgusted and ashamed.
Disgusted beyond words.
Very well written! Thank you.

Ta, Robyn. I. Just. Can't.

Fortunately nitrogen comprises 78% of the atmosphere, a little more won’t hurt.
Jesus fucking Christ, we are a horrible country. I'm with Queen below, it gave me pain to read this.
I can't read this. I got about 4 paragraphs in and had to stop or I would have experienced sympathy vomiting.
Amen. Took me three tries. GAH
"Civilization", howareyou!

Can't they contact the Mob and get some surefire death-dealing methods??
And as I suggested earlier, just send him to a wedding and drone-bomb it. That's never been an issue amongst voters in the South.
