At times it seems like these Republican men never attended any sex ed classes in school, They don't have any idea of pregnancy works, how often it goes wrong or what means for a baby to be viable. It's a failure of education, though also a failure of jackass religious bigotry..

Wait, what? If it's popular, then . . . ah, fuck it. It's Texas.

One meme I’ve seen going around the forced birth world is the idea that fatal abnormalities in fetuses are meaningless because β€œeveryone dies eventually” life itself is a fatal condition.

So a still birth is better than no birth to these idiots. And it’s better to let a newborn have a brief life of pain and suffering, even though we wouldn’t subject a dog to that.

So if you’re a woman in Texas seeking an abortion, the best thing is to not tell anyone about the pregnancy and drive yourself to a sane state. Don’t tell anyone where or why you’re traveling lest they rat you out to the bounty hunters and to protect your loved ones from being targeted.

At least until republicans pass a law requiring all women to pee on a stick before being allowed to leave the state and to be tested again upon reentry.

I would think in many cases reentry would not be part of the plan.

Unfortunately for Texans, anyone wanting to flee the state for somewhere more sane (like Colorado) is forced to drive through Amarillo.

Here is one of its most famous landmarks: https://www.bigtexan.com/72-oz-steak/

It is all just the fucking Terri Schiavo case all over again, because we, collectively, did not learn the moral of that story "Never believe ANYTHING a self-identified as "pro life" person says because they live in a fantasy world and facts don't matter to them, every word they utter is a lie and they are absolutely certain that their idiotic beliefs are more important than any actual life. They are so fucking pro life that they'll gladly kill all the rest of us to get their way.

How would you enforce the road ban anyway? Stop everyone who looks like that they might have a uterus and be of reproductive age that passes through and force them to pee on a stick?

Actually, no. I take that back. I don’t want to give anyone any ideas.

This is infuriating. They are basically deputizing every yahoo with a pickup truck to sue someone who they think drove someone out of state for an abortion. If this is upheld I can see them using the same logic to go after trans people needing to go out of state for care. I think this is the real logic behind the AG's request to the Seattle Children's Hospital. Once they have the names they can go after anyone helping those children getting gender affirming care.

I wouldn't be at all surprised this is also a ploy to cause sane, decent people to flee to other states, thus securing the GOP stranglehold in states like TX. Officials in sane states (like WA or CA) will tell TX officials to fuck off, and that will be that. It is safer to move or at least travel to another state for many reasons now.

I don't blame anyone for leaving those statesβ€”you gotta do what is right for you and your family. I do think making these states so miserable to live in unless you're a RWNJ is a secondary benefit of their unending cruelty.

I used to talk like that, too. but stop and think of all the good people stranded there by economics, family ties, even love of the landscape (there are. in fact, quite pretty parts). The music scene in Austin. from which emerged Johnny and Edgar Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lucinda Williams, Shaun Colvin, Nanci Griffith, Patty Griffin, Tish Hinojosa, James McMurtry, Doug Sahm, Michelle Shocked. Maybe all those people might have made themselves heard from Tejas, maybe not. I don't think our friends from there who live there need any more agita than they already get from being liberals living under a reactionary regime.

Across deep red states the latest gambit is to strip blue communities like Austin of most self-rule capability. While the public in those cities may support progressive ideals, their respective state governments are legislatively stripping them of the ability to implement those policies. Texas and Florida are both working toward homogenizing their states.

It reminds me very much of Stalin herding the peasantry into the collective farms, whether they were already producing enough food without oppressing anybody or not. Dictators like uniformity because it is simple and because they do not want independent thinking.

β€œIt has the idea of saying we’re letting the people decide.”

Rather than "The people should decide". Says a lot.

Though, of course, the people who should actually decide are the ones involved, in consultation with their doctors. For this Republican man, though, it's all a fucking political game he's playing, because he knows it's never going to be about him.
