Technically, a yojimbo is a bodyguard hired by a non-noble, so kind of masterless and kind of non-masterless.

Also kind of itchy, if Kurosawa is to be believed. They definitely had that in common.

Sorta OT but because they told me at a conference the other day it was a good idea, I created a teacher Pinterest account, and went looking for Shakespeare stuff. Only to find that there are countless idiots out there who think that a few poems that are obviously NOT Shakespeare (in other words, modern) ARE Shakespeare, including one idiot teacher of Shakespeare who was gushing about how one of these non-Shakespeare poems would definitely convince her reluctant students that Shakespeare was worth studying. For. Fucks. Sake. Oh and of course most of these are available on mugs, plaques, etc, mostly through (what else?) Etsy.

Oh, and fuck Allan West. With any of those props in that stupid picture.

In current Japanese, a "ronin" is someone who flunked their college entrance exams, and so is currently unemployed (or doing only part-time work), while allegedly studying to pass again next year.

I'm willing to call West a flunk-out, too.

Actually, DesCartes had a theory of gravity having to do with vortices (i.e. "everything sucking") that Newtonian physics directly challenged.

Considering ronin were meant to kill themselves, I'm sure many people wish he WAS actually one.
