I remember back in, oh, the 90s or so, when someone discovered Speedy Gonzalez singing that line on some cartoon compilation videotape, and the local news went berserk over it. I *think* it was around the time the new Mighty Mouse cartoon got nuked for MM snorting powdered flowers.

I thought it was already in there:

La cucaracha, la cucaracha, ya no puede caminar

Porque no quere, porque no gusta, marijuana quer fumar.

At least that's the way my dad used to sing it in the shower. He was a professor of Latin American history. BTW, we're Irish.

I think it was Paul Krugman, writing about 2001 or 2002, that Democrats should stop worrying about the Federal Deficit because whatever Dems do to balance the budget the Rs would blow up the next time they are in power. Carter-Reagan, Clinton-Bush, Obama-Trump. It's why we can't have nice things.

> The GDP grew again in the third quarter, too, and those wild-eyed radicals at the Wall Street Journal crooned that the next president will “inherit a remarkable economy.”

Economic results lag political action by about 2 years. It was the PAB economy up to 2022, and it's the Biden economy through '26 (unless PAB gets in and just really fucks things up right from the jump, which, possible). Should (gods forbid) PAB get elected he'd be crowing about "his" great economy for the first 2 years.

Elon Musk's plans to save the world always begin with us giving him All The Money, everyone else making tons of sacrifices (I mean, being totally hardcore), and then at some indeterminate point in the future he'll save humanity.

He probably couldn't make the affordable EVs happen because we didn't give him All The Money enough.

Had one of my scariest Halloween experiences ever, which was this carpet in this hotel room.

Did you stay at the Aloha Inn in Sparks, NV? That was my scariest hotel carpet. I would not walk on it without my shoes. Also, scariest hotel room in general; smear of blood on the wall behind the bathroom door, sheets kinda iffy so we brought in our own bedding (this was at the end of a 5 week road trip), and when I went to get ice, the door handle came off, so that we were trapped in our room with a phone that did not work. We had to flag down a guest passing by the window to open the door for us.

Not a good time

In 2002 I stayed in a hotel in a small city in China that was to be drowned soon by the Three Gorges Dam. We were unceremoniously dropped off by our boat at about 10:00 p.m. in heavy rain. Apparently this was the closest town to our destination, another several miles downriver. The city was all but deserted, with most residents having already been relocated. At the top of a long, steep, slippery street, up which we dragged out bags, we found a guest house that reluctantly let us in. They too were pretty much closed up permanently, but gave us a room. The sheets had not been changed. The water trickled out of the shower head. The door not only would not lock but wouldn't close. I got up at one point to try to find some hot water for tea and just about screamed, as there was an old woman with stringy long hair sitting motionless at a table in the hallway. I thought she was dead.

Met someone visiting from Arkansas last night and she and her husband are voting for Kamala. Everyone at the party was and yes, I live in CA SF area but to hear others be do forget and the young girls and their families doing the same made me think that there is just no way that this election is close. When you have the GQP already promising to create chaos that tells you that they are skeert bad.

And the girls of TikTok spreading the word Lort help them all. Pointing out that MAGA is only tearing families apart doesn’t make anything great and perhaps it’s time to abandon that whole nonsense.

Maybe enough daughters will guilt their dads into voting for their rights because they do want to protect their children. There is hope.
