But are there even 17 sane congressional Republicans left? If so, name them, please.

Excellent! If only any Republican would take these steps. Sadly, I fear none will.

Lots of comments saying that this will never happen. Better to ask how to make it happen? What will help them stand up to MAGA? They're not Democrats, nor are their voters, so *build* a way for them to stand up that fits their principles. Build a new center-right party. Pull the rug out from under the crazy. The GOP is dead.

A lovely missive :

One that will be all but IGNORED by people who now live in mortal fear for their livelihoods, and personal safety of their families and themselves.

It’s a nice thought though……………

I think they are all in too deep. I’m sure there is kompromat on every single one of them, “sane” or not. I don’t think there are any heroes in this bunch. They have known all along who Trump is, even if they miscalculated the Elon/Thiel factor. I’d like to think I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am. This going to come down to the Democrats and a likely populist uprising.

Absolutely on-point, except the part about calling Assmouth and Elmo “fellow conservatives.” They are absolutely not Conservatives in any traditional sense; they are self-aggrandizing scam artists, with the moral compass of a syphilitic bonobo. Say what you will about Conservatives, and I certainly have, but they have core beliefs. Often cruel and even evil core beliefs, but they stick to them. The Dueling Presidents have no core beliefs, except “Gimme mine, and yours too.” We need to convince those traditional Conservatives to pull their heads out of Assmouth’s gaping orifice and stand up for what they have always said they believe in.

That was good, but before the request list began, it should’ve started with, “We’re really sorry our side is so pathetically incompetent that we can’t win back either house of Congress, and our party leaders were so inept they couldn’t beat a twice-impeached 34-time convicted felon. So please help us and all people of reason, because we’re fools when it comes to politics.”

I’m still a bit bitter I suppose.

If you wanna hammer on actions for Republican Congresscritters to take, 2F is the one. Anyone who's reachable has made it abundantly clear over the past four years that they very badly want SOMEONE ELSE to solve Trump for them. So much so that the "someone else" part is the only thing they'll listen to.

Manufacturing a health or family crisis and staying away while Democrats vote to save the Republic is probably the only thing they'll ever consider. Not that that's any kind of a lock, Congressional Democrats aren't exactly a profile in courage.

But it's probably the only realistic ask.

They don't have to be sane, but they do need some courage. Never seen such a bunch of sissies. They KNOW they are approving complete incompetents for key posts in Trump's government, and they do it anyway.

You talked about Trump and Vance both need to go but I'm a bit concerned about speaker of the house and very Christofash Mike Johnson who would love a nazi theocracy. That guy having real power scares me more than Trump and Vance combined like some sort of RRR vengeance machine.

He would be all in for making us an actual Gilead.

It still amazes me how so many of these people cowered under desks with emergency gas masks, fearing for their lives while one door and the capitol police stood between them and a crazy mob.

Then later on that same day far too many of them voted in favor of the attempted coup. Every single one of those fucking greedy morons should have been ejected and forever barred from public service after effectively betraying their oaths of office for supporting a coup. But then I shouldn't expect much when there is a survivor of polio in congress who is going to be partly responsible for bringing polio back.

Ths is why originally after impeachment the candidate with the second most popular votes took over; now, there is no change of policy or leadership upon impeachment.
