Not sure about forced abortions and whether there were actually laws on the books, but we do have a very nasty history of forced/non-informed sterilizations of Black and Indigenous people and people with disabilities.

As I understand it, Roe v Wade guarantees the right to an abortion up to the point of viability. Then, it is up to the states to decide what happens after that. Most states say no abortion after viability unless the fetus has a condition that’s incompatible with life or the woman’s life is in danger. My state, Oregon, is the only state in the country with no restrictions on abortion, meaning legally you could waltz into a clinic at 38 weeks and demand an abortion. However, as far as I know, no woman in her right mind would do this and no doctor would be willing to do it. I also think that the only people who aren’t OK with the law being silent on abortion are ones who don’t trust women.
