Back when I worked in the library I once had to scan a series of flattering articles about Mussolini from the Saturday Evening Post on microfilm. Before the US got involved in WWII on the side of the Allies, it was apparently mainstream to openly opine that fascism was pretty neat.
Macro, once you ignore Monetary policy, is not difficult to understand. It's not that far away from common sense. You can get buried in the weeds if that's your jam but the 30,000 ft level is accessible.
"...the only time these people do not "trust the government" is when it comes to things that might help people."
That happens when the people being helped are different or disliked from those who mistrust government. If it helps them, or people they admire, i.e. billionaires, then they are on board.
I often think that if it weren't for slavery that it would have been better to let the stupid states go their own way. I wonder if Lincoln ever imagined that a century and a half later they'd still be a financial and cultural drag on the Union.
I have seen this happen before with my own eyes. This article doesn't even begin to express how tragic this is. It's not even a life for the victims, it's "existence".https://foreignpolicy.com/2...
My kid and I volunteer at a food bank/pantry in the next town over. They are making sure that several hundred families' kids get 1-2 square meals each day this summer while schools (and their meals) are not in session, and that the families get fresh produce as well as protein, dairy, a loaf of bread, etc. Random volunteer duties include "if you have the time and a vehicle, please go to X supermarket to pick up 75 loaves of bread and bring them to Y location for distribution to families." They can serve people who must be gluten-free or have food allergies, too.
My first assigned task was to take a disorganized, randomly labeled/mislabeled supply closet full of adult diapers in "male" and "female" in 4-5 sizes, reorganize it so "look and grab the right one the first time" was in effect, and label accordingly using rainbow post-its, packing tape, and a sharpie. That was fun.
This was the mindset my parents had too. We didn’t have insurance and we didn’t access medical care for anything, including vaccinations and births. I saw a doctor for the first time in my life when I was twenty years old and deathly ill in the ER. I had let a completely treatable infection go on way too long because I was so afraid of what it would cost to go to a clinic, so instead of an office visit and oral antibiotics I spent three days in the hospital on IV antibiotics. My kiddos were born in hospitals, vaccinated, and received regular preventative care along with routine care for childhood illnesses.
The reason why red states oppose helping people is because they can’t just help white people. As long as somewhere, there’s a possibility a “blah” person might be helped, they’ll oppose it. Even if it means shooting themselves in the face.
Yes, they can also do bulk purchases right from wholesalers.
Yes, for safety. They can't be sure that someone stored milk properly.

Extra bonus people!

Especially applicable when referencing Huckabees.

Or just give money and the food shelf can usually make it go farther.
If it weren't for slavery this country would not have triumphed as it did. The riches and products from the South brought in lots of money.
New Mexico is higher than I thought it would be.

Good! I'm glad you didn't follow your upbringing.
