Good for CSU. They are very clear to all staff they support all inclusivity. Proud to live in Fort Collins with many past and current family members who have been/are CSU students, faculty or staff!!!

My son's involved in a sport called HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). He commented recently that it attracts a surprising number of (openly) LGBTQIA+ people; especially trans women.

HEMA doesn't have any divisions, except by weapon type. Everyone goes into a Round Robin draw and everyone fights anyone. I've watched my 6'5" heavily muscled son get his arse kicked, by a woman who didn't reach his armpit. Trans women don't have to worry about anyone pulling the "biological advantage" card, because they're mostly facing cis men anyway.

The Australian Women's Basketball team is, AFAIK, all cis women. Their heights range from 5'9" to 6'6". Once you get beyond the purely recreational, ALL sport is about "biological advantage".

Fuck transphobes. Join HEMA and wale on all comers with a fucking sword.

There's a lot for me personally to unpack here:

1) well done Crip, another stellar piece from you, and of course Erin in the Morning's reporting as well.

2) San Jose should just go ahead and print up MWC championship t-shirts and wear them for warm-ups against the schools that will play them, making sure to get a lot of pics taken and distributed across social media for the benefit of the ones who chose to forfeit.

C) that woman involved in the suit wouldn't be co-captain of any team I was on, or coached.

I should emphasize that as a "player" I would take matters into my own hands if the circumstances warranted. (If I was a a cis woman and teammate being the key issue)

IV) I wonder if there would be a similar uproar if Fleming was a 5'5" setter/librero?

e) Someone please read through and correct me if I'm missing where a specific gender is mentioned in NCAA Beach Volleyball

https://www.ncaa.com/news/beach-volleyball/article/2024-02-18/how-ncaa-beach-volleyball-works-rules-format-and-complete-history

or if this is somehow just my imagination?

(Yes, indoor and beach are entirely different but there is coed beach doubles which was the basis for this deep dive).

Fuck these bigots and all the "Kamala is for They/Them ads" I have to see here in Arizona. This shit can't end soon enough

Expand full comment

...Is that supposed to be a dig against Kamala? I want someone who cares about everyone as President. Is it an extension of their us vs. them worldview where "them" is some shadowy perceived enemy? Or is it just another example of the stupid One Joke transphobes love to recycle ad nauseam?

I mean it's stupid and ridiculous no matter what, but it doesn't even really make sense.

They frame it as she wasted tax payer money to allow a murderer (they always find one or two outliers and make it seem like that's all that happened) to get gender affirming care. So therefore, Kamala is for they/them. Kamala also personally allowed every sex offender and criminal to roam free in liberal San Francisco.

Wow, that is even more out there than I thought. And as someone who lives in San Francisco, I can personally attest that it's not some dystopian hell hole. Not that I think it would change any minds, they'd have to come here to see it and they're too afraid to do so. More people who claim to be alphas but wet their pants at the thought of venturing into a city.

I have seen women’s volleyball players. They are really tall.

Expand full comment

Real “We have to destroy women’s sports in order to save them” energy here. “Protect our little ladies! By not letting them play.”

Expand full comment

I don't think I'll ever get over "See! She's too tall for volleyball" in my entire life.

I was at work so I couldn't say, and probably said before, but it blows my mind that they're taking this move of "I don't like one female player, therefore it's better that NONE of "our" female players get to play, and none of the other female players get to play!"

I am SO not sporty, but if I were, and on a team, I would want to PLAY, damn it! I would be so mad about this.

The fact that it's one SJSU player suing and causing a hissy fit over it breaks my heart.

She threw her entire team under the bus because she's a TERF.

Cis woman Lauren Jackson was 6ft 5in when she played for the Seattle Storm and they won a bunch of WNBA titles. I don’t remember anyone complaining about how unfair and dangerous it was to have games against a tall basketball player at the time.

Funny that, eh?

One loss to the Rams doesn't counteract four wins for the Spartans! Go Spartans! Also, as soon as Slusser loses her NCAA lawsuit, can they kick her off the team?

GO GO Gothletes!

Anyone else encounter the claim that trans women view women's bodies as male property? Makes no sense.

Expand full comment

...what? I can't even begin to parse the tortured logic behind that statement. Hatred of trans women is inherently misogynistic because it is about controlling and policing ALL women's bodies and appearances. On the other hand, TERFs and anti-choice people and incels and MAGA in general definitely view women's bodies as male property.

Expand full comment

I’m sure the starting points are “men view women’s bodies as male property” and “trans women aren’t really women” (oh, and my iPad suggested “men” for the last word, not at all surprising since I know the demographics of that team) but I can’t contort my brain enough to work out the next steps.

It's just terf shit.

That makes about as much sense as a Trump speech i.e. None.

I'm sure if we just give in and ban transgender athletes these folks will be happy and just a go away.

It sure would be nice if there were ways to deter someone from outing someone who did not consent to being outed. Would that fit into Title IX anywhere? It feels like a major safety and privacy violation. Even a hiippa hippa hippo violation?

Expand full comment

Technically it **can** fit into Title IX, but the manner of outing in this case wouldn't amount to that. Outing that breaches Title IX would have to be done in such a manner -- or so repeatedly, to so many people -- that it was both obviously intended to create a hostile environment and actually created that hostile environment.

Since Slusser isn't running around giving a bunch of interviews but rather only outed Blaire in the context of a legal filing where she's required to give supporting facts for her claim would make it impossible for any court to rule that this was intended to create a hostile educational environment. (I mean, it might even be intended that way, but no court is going to use a court filing on its own to assert that this is proven or you'd have the chaos of people being unable to file lawsuits.)

As a Colorado State alum, I almost shed a tear of pride when Rams Volleyball refused to buy into the anti-trans bigotry.

...and then crushed SJSU, proving that these fair and delicate women wouldn't be torn limb-from-limb by a trans athlete.

Fucking cowardly bigots, forfeiting games to stand up for their values. Fuck their values. Ask your students how they feel about that.

Expand full comment

That's the way to prove your support. Play them and beat them at their chosen sport. It IS a team sport, after all. One star player can make a big difference, but she won't beat a great overall team.
