If the people who voted for Trump end up suffering AND actually realize that that piece of shit bait-and-switched them and is the cause of their pain, I will savor it. And I will wish more suffering upon them. I want revenge and I want justice. That’s just where I’m at right now.

If you vote to be punched in the dick and then get punched in the dick, you deserve that dick punch.

Rebecca, thank you for posting this. I've been dealing with this trauma while staying with MAGA relatives who are taking delight in my misery. The community around me is full of spiteful bullies who've been animated by the election. We're going to need to be kind to each other and reassure the community of kind-hearts that we're not alone. GodDAMN, this hurts.😫

Dear Rebecca, et al. Reading through the comments on this post has been very good for my brain. I’m glad so many of us are finding community here at this moment. I’ve been lurking around the ol’ mommyblog since 2008 Obama/McCain-era, I support at Patreon.

My ex’s grandparents escaped the holocaust from Germany and Austria. When they got to America they refused to ever buy a home, “Because the government could take it away in an instant.” That’s the fear lurking in the back of my mind: it would be so easy for the Orange Maggot to strip us of our bank accounts and homes, if he felt compelled to punish us for any infraction.

I’m fortunate to live in Portland OR where my zip code went 92% for Biden. I’m fortunate to be in the LGBTQ community that NBC says went 86% for Harris. I feel safe for now in my blue bubble, I know most of my neighbors are not my Enemy. I’m resigned to sucking it up to live through another 4-25 years of Trump’s reign. I fear the ways Trump / Elmo / RFK Jr will fuck with those of us in the blue bubbles. They are no doubt scheming ways to take away our health care, abortions, and mortgage interest tax deduction. Portland had Trump’s secret police downtown stirring up trouble during the George Floyd protests, seeing how far they could apply the Insurrection Act without anyone noticing or caring. I dread what T will do to get back at the West Coast, the NorthEast, Illinois.

I’m not even that mad at Trump’s supporters. He received less votes this time than in 2020; we knew he had brainwashed cultists who wanted to cause us pain. The ones I cannot forgive are the D who stayed home. I hear what they are saying: Kamala was a centrist candidate, and they wanted a progressive that offered policies they could believe in. Yes, I’d have loved it if Bernie was the winner in 2016. Or we had a 2024 candidate who said, "Fuck the rich! Their taxes are going back to 35%, and you all get free health care and abortions!!!" But Christ, man! Consider the people who need the protection of a centrist Democrat. Us Queers, Trans folk, latinos, immigrants, poor people, the houseless, those in need of mental health treatment, and women.

Democratic women who stayed home? WTF?

It will be hard to forgive our friends, and their apathy. Especially when we’re knee deep in bullshit mid'25.

Here’s a final thought: Donald Trump will be President during the USA's 250th anniversary. He'll probably put his face on Mt Rushmore. This country is over when you have an authoritarian ruler on the Semiquincentennial. I vote for Cascadian Secession. Let's do it, West Coast!!!

Wait! What? I didn't know he got less than in 2020, and that so many Dems stayed home. God-fucking-dammit! What the hell? I can't stand it. I just can't freaking stand it. How Stupid can people be? New saying: "As stupid as an apathetic Democrat".

Once everything is counted he will end up with more votes than he got in 2020, as will Harris, but both will fall short of what Biden got. Turnout will be lower than 2020, but higher than elections before that.

NEWSWEEK Nov 07, 2024 at 2:12 PM EST ---> At the time of writing, with many more votes still to be counted, Harris has just under 68 million votes, more than **13 million** below the 81.2 million votes Biden had in 2020. Trump is currently at 72.6 million, less than 2 million away from the 74.2 million votes received in the 2020 election. Still, even with the remaining votes yet to be counted, Harris is set to fall short of Biden's tally four years ago. https://www.newsweek.com/joe-biden-millions-voters-kamala-harris-trump-election-1981954

Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”

Project 2025 said it “does not speak for any candidate or campaign” in a July 5 post on X, formerly Twitter. Its playbook is comprised of suggestions the coalition believes will benefit the "next conservative president.""

the MSM is the only source that matters when you're not already one of us. And there was precious little on 2025 going on there.

Soap-box time: We need a media messaging machine to match the right-wing one. With in-your-face programming about this and everything else fucked-up about Republicans, and everything Democrats do that help Americans lead better lives. THAT is where millions if not billions of $$ need to go NOW. In addition to vetting candidates for 2026 and '28 NOW and on TV and social media and on our OWN networks. We need to create our own echo-chamber with truth and facts. We need to fix the GD Dem messaging apparatus, or create one cuz I don't think there is one. This has been a 50 year plan with the 'thugs. We have two years to catch up.

Ta, Rebecca. I'm glad I never had kids; you do a great job! More baking sounds good. Our first wedding present (given to us by Eclipse Friend in April) was a vintage red KitchenAid stand mixer. We had to buy a dough hook for it, and it works like a charm. Oh, she also gave us a pizza stone. Darling husband Meccalopolis makes the tomato sauce; I make the dough, oil it, sauce it, (vegan) cheese it, and top it, usually with mushrooms and olive slices, last time grilled artichoke hearts, too. Husband handles the pizza stone.

Expand full comment

I love my KitchenAid mixer, it’s the greatest!

You need a pizza peel so you can get it out easily.

Homemade is so much better than the store or takeout.

Expand full comment

My sweet husband has “welder’s hands” and pulls out the stone with oven mitts, while I slide the parchment paper containing the pie from the stone onto the butcher block, and cut the basil leaves onto the bubbling pizza. We’re a great team.

My gf is vegan, I'm omni. She can't eat tomatoes, so we can't even share a pizza.

Pizza does not require tomato sauce. It can be caramelized onion and red pepper and all kinds of other things. Or make vegan ricotta (soak macadamias overnight, strain and reserve the soak water, add some nutritional yeast, and blend in a food processor or strong blender, adding soak water if needed a tiny bit at a time) for white pizza. Top with spinach, herbs, mushrooms, or what-have-you.

I’m trying to process Tuesday. One thing I’ve watched is people on the left, my friends, my allies, take to schadenfreude at the idea that trump will bring pain to people who voted for him thinking he would bring about the change they want…I get it, it’s fuck around; find out time…but…but, I am also frightened by this shift. I’m frightened by leftists/democrats/liberals, whatever label fits, actually enjoying the suffering that is sure to come. Prior to Tuesday these same people would tout we do this for ALL Americans. Are we giving up on that? Are we stooping to maga levels of epicaricacy? Do we really want to find joy watching a young woman who voted for trump bleed out in a hospital parking lot? Do we want to rejoice watching a trump voter’s pain when ICE comes for their cousin? Are we gonna cheer the child who loses access to cancer treatment because mommy and daddy are MAGA?

We voted the way we did on Tuesday because we want to mitigate harm and suffering that people face. We seek to find ways to fix problems and help people…we want to believe we are the people who will stand up against the bully, but what are we if we adopt the attitude and tactics of the bully?

I spent a lot of time yesterday questioning my very humanity…if we go that way, if we shift toward recriminations of our political opponents, then are we not abandoning our higher ideals?

I know we are all processing this differently and it takes time to recover, but I don’t want to fall under the false pleasure maga enjoys of watching people suffer. I don’t want to be them.

Expand full comment

i know you're exactly right. i will get back to my moderated self. soon.

but for the next little while, the schadenfreude is going to win out.

Expand full comment

It's not enjoying the suffering. Its an anger response to the people on the right gloating about how upset people are. We know what is coming and they seem to think that its all going to be gravy and awesome for them. That their vote haven't put them into the pot along with everyone else. Remember most still haven't learned that "its not the right people who are being hurt".

There is not really ANYTHING to stop what is coming. They have the house (potentially), senate, presidency and the supreme court. People will try but the maga and MSM are going to place the blame on the Dems.

It's just people looking at who they have the emotion bandwidth to care about now. And unfortunately for the people who voted for their daughters and wives to bleed out and for them and their cousin to be rounded up and all the other daily stories of "I voted for tfg and I didn't think this bad thing will happen". There is very little left but "we told you so".

It's fine if you want to stand there and wring your hands about not becoming the bully. But there are whole load of people who are angry and not where you are, and may never be and that's ok. There are also people who are angry and rolling up their sleeve and doing what they can to help who they can.

Also can I point out worse case in four years there is no election. They have and are talking about suspending the constitution. So no article 22.

We are now in triage mode. Help wherever and whenever we can, no matter who or how they voted. To quote a certain muppet, “fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.” If we hold it against those who voted for trump when the hurt comes, and it will come, I hope we can all maintain some sense of compassion, cuz if we don’t I worry we only add to the suffering.

"Ahimsa is the attribute of the soul, and therefore, to be practiced by everybody in all affairs of life. If it cannot be practiced in all departments, it has no practical value."

Expand full comment

Ok but you cannot save everyone. You can only help as much as you can and you cannot save anyone from themselves or their choices. We are not doctors saving patients or lawyers who are practising the law.

Also the type of people you are talking about; some would look at a helping hand and spit in your face for who the helpers are.

It's that old story about the man on the rooftop in a flood who turns down help because they're waiting on god and he when he gets to heaven god says I sent you a help three times.

There is no legal mechanism to suspend the constitution, and a rather large number of heavily armed and organized people sworn to defend it against enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC. Of course, you can fantasize about it being done, but you're in Elon-Musk-Colonizes-Mars territory then.

“how happy we will be when bad things happen to everyone who caused this”

I think this right here is the difference between now and 2016. Last time we thought, well maybe they didn’t understand what they were voting for, but a little education and they’ll change their allegiance. So we were told to be civil and kind and jolly them along to see the error of their ways. This time, there is no excuse. The voters made their choice and voted for hate with extra added misogyny. And I’m done with them. I will answer back bluntly. I will be exercising my “block” function ruthlessly. I might even call them names in certain circumstances. And when they cry that employment is falling, but the price of everything has gone up, I’ll tell them that’s exactly what they voted for.
