First they came for Jennifer Jones and I said nothing....

Fuck that, I'm saying something. When did America become afraid of what people say? The Quartzite City Council is an echo of the controlled "town hall" meetings Dubya Bush orchestrated, where everyone double-plus agreed with The Party and Dear Leader.

And in the plain language of the Constitution, the government may not act "abridging the freedom of speech". But in Quarzite Arizona they HATE America. Fuck 'em.

I don't think you guys understand how much money, for instance, goes into subsidizing our road system. Just a city road costs 1-2 million dollars to pave per mile, that is not including traffic lights or sidewalks. Much of that money is divied up at the Federal level, even for very localized projects.

Water, gas and sewage all cost a pretty penny too and in most states are controlled by local governments.

WO: Have you ever seen Arizona? Most of that state looks like somebody already beat you to it!

There's horse pasture (meaning no water) for sale for thousands of dollars an acre. What makes this blasted heath of nothing right here worth more than all the other blasted heath around it?

If she were packing this meeting would have gone much better.

Remember, the federal bureaucracy needs to turn more power over to local governments because they are closer to the problems and more answerable to the people.

I'm speechless. Thankfully, I don't live in this town that sounds like a wally-world gemstone special, though, so when the powers of oration return, I won't be arrested or shot on sight for exercising them. Yet.
