Whatever is in the drinking water in Arizona lately seems to be spreading: in the small town of Quartzite, the Orwellian "town council" of overlords declared the mayor fired and the sheriff in charge of everything, martial law, everyone must wear hoods, etc., because of threats to The Council. It began when these council members arrested a woman for speaking at a public meeting and saying things they did not like, so, uh, "Guantanamo her" they decided. Video of the arrest is now on YouTube, where it is "going viral" like the stuff in the water, and the mayor wants the FBI or Governor Brewer or just ANYONE to intervene.
First they came for Jennifer Jones and I said nothing....
Fuck that, I'm saying something. When did America become afraid of what people say? The Quartzite City Council is an echo of the controlled "town hall" meetings Dubya Bush orchestrated, where everyone double-plus agreed with The Party and Dear Leader.
And in the plain language of the Constitution, the government may not act "abridging the freedom of speech". But in Quarzite Arizona they HATE America. Fuck 'em.
I don't think you guys understand how much money, for instance, goes into subsidizing our road system. Just a city road costs 1-2 million dollars to pave per mile, that is not including traffic lights or sidewalks. Much of that money is divied up at the Federal level, even for very localized projects.
Water, gas and sewage all cost a pretty penny too and in most states are controlled by local governments.
WO: Have you ever seen Arizona? Most of that state looks like somebody already beat you to it!
There's horse pasture (meaning no water) for sale for thousands of dollars an acre. What makes this blasted heath of nothing right here worth more than all the other blasted heath around it?
Notice that nobody's using those "second amendment remedies" they're always shouting about. The Second Amendment-- You'd have to be crazy to use it.
i'm not exactly sure what happened here, but it's good to see that 'moran' guy is still doing his civic responsibility.
Remember, the federal bureaucracy needs to turn more power over to local governments because they are closer to the problems and more answerable to the people.
I'm speechless. Thankfully, I don't live in this town that sounds like a wally-world gemstone special, though, so when the powers of oration return, I won't be arrested or shot on sight for exercising them. Yet.

Also has a small redneck hippy community.
What is hilarious about this is that it will happen again.

It's not stupidity. It's animal cunning.

Only when the dictator can affect the price of oil.
I'm surprised there isn't a 40-foot tall statue of the mayor, so they could pull it down.

I'm Proud to Be An American Where they arrest me if I speak...
White, obviously. No whine of color allowed.
But they finally got E-ZPass! Like, 20 years after the rest of the neighboring states.
If she were packing this meeting would have gone much better.
