All Clark apparently said is that people should vote and should educate themselves about candidates and policies. And that's an attack on Trump? How? Because people actually educating themselves somehow threatens Trump?
Hmmm. It's like they actually get it, on some level.
"if you thought that wrung the MAGA tears dry, you sorely underestimate the amount of water that can be derived from a single snowflake" - that's beautiful.
One of the many things I love about the W is how it's making progress toward becoming a league where owners, management, and coaches have the highest respect for the players.
On the other hand, you have racist/sports radio and its podcast descendants, one of the most powerful forces keeping too many American white men tightly bound to a fucked-up world view and sense of identity.
The idiots that would gladly give a reality TV grifter with a room temperature IQ control over nuclear weapons also think that famous people shouldn't have opinions.
"Testeria" is a great term that I'm totally filing away for future use.
Also, I wonder if women's sports become more popular to where they are competing with men's sports, if they will eventually merge with the men's sports. And if that is even something that would be good or bad.
"This, of course, led to more testeria about women ballers being “woke,” but if you thought that wrung the MAGA tears dry, you sorely underestimate the amount of water that can be derived from a single snowflake."
So glad for the ladies! Big Ws all around for the WNBA.
Most of you all know that I am a Georgia fan. When I actually attended the university, the Lady Dawgs were quite good; we used to joke, "we have a men's basketball team too?"
Great article, Crip. I am a Straight up hoophead for 30 years here and the W has been better than the League this year. Clark's entry into the W has given people an opportunity to follow the story from the beginning. Clark will be the best player in the W, but for right now she's the third best player on her team. Clark may lead the W in assists, but also leads in turnovers and is a developing defender. Watching the mentor/learner relationship between Boston and Clark happen has been the best story in basketball this year. I love them all and can't wait for the playoff run.
"Watching the mentor/learner relationship between Boston and Clark happen has been the best story in basketball this year' - no kidding, this has been fascinating to watch. These young women are so impressive in so many ways.
I've been a sportsball fan from time to time, and this year the Indiana Fever has commanded my attention. All the players are good, but Mitchell, Boston, and Clark are a hell of a combination.
I don't know all the terminology, so please pardon me any ignorance I may display, but Boston dominates on the inside, Mitchell is there -- so quickly, just there! -- and Clark sometimes seems to defy the laws of physics as she instantly converts herself into a flowing force.
Clark already showed a lot of that in her college play, and it's been a pleasure to watch how she's changed over this season. Early on, she seemed unsure of herself on the court. Then, she got body-slammed in one game and it seems to have clicked -- she was in a much rougher league now. She would have to take rough and give it, and she has learned how, without losing any of the great talent she showed in college play.
I totally agree that the MAGA reaction to Clark was disgusting and I am so glad they are out of the picture for the most part. Racist and sexist attacks and threats of violence against Reece and other black athletes is absolutely vile, ignorant and even criminal behavior.
I do feel though that Clark was also a victim of MAGA as well and that should be mentioned here as well. Clark was incomprehensibly hazed by current players and former players like Swoopes when she did nothing to earn that level of scorn. Clark didn’t ask for MAGA chuds to defend her nor is she one of them. It’s not her job to take their hits.
I think it’s important to mention how she handled these attacks from other players and then by MAGA when she “offended” them with her support of democracy, with grace and sportsmanship. I hope the other players and commentators learn to separate her from her more toxic supporters.
Caitlin Clark's long-range shooting creates problems for the defense, but imo, her most valuable asset is her ability to create opportunities for her teammates. Thanks to Clark's record breaking performance in assists, Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull are having their best seasons ever in the WNBA. And Mitchell and Clark are arguably the best back court in the league. Despite all the drama, this WNBA season rates as an artistic success.
One more thing, for the LOLs...
"One instagram commenter insisted that they’d just thrown away their very real Caitlin Clark jersey."
Why most NBA teams went away from realizing the point guard is the most important person on the floor is beyond me. It’s like playing football without a starting quarterback. Yes Clark makes amazing shots and she is quite reminiscent of Bird or Curry but it’s her passing that gets people off their feet most of the time. And if you watch their games it’s contagious. The other players start looking for the back door passes and assists. They bought into her style because it’s effective and it’s fun.
One of the things that has impressed me most is that other players on other teams have always had the ability to throw the occasional behind the back pass, or no-looker over the head, or drop their dribble for the runner behind them to pick up. But with Clark in the league, these plays that she makes so casually are on the increase everywhere. There's always been the sense that they're risky plays (and they are!) The proof was in Clark's first month in the league when her turnovers were so high. But the payoff is so great -- and others see that from Clark's success -- that the best passers on other teams are now trying a few more passes like that, here and there, now and again.
No one is Clark, but she's changing how all of the league's best passers play the game. All of them. You can see that now when the Liberty play the Sun and Clark is a thousand miles away. That's how big her impact is.
Ta, Crip Dyke. So much talent and grace!

I'm glad you explained this. I couldn't figure out WTF they were upset about.
Actually tell people what he intends to do, using his own words, makes them shoot at him.
Yet it's his own guys? MAGA folk must be more complex than I ever suspected.

If they were smarter they'd see it.

Happy that the level of competition and the skills of the Players are on display.
Sad that MAGA ruins everything.

Well done, Crip Dyke.

Nary a mention of the best team down the stretch, my Minnesota Lynx! Fie on this post, says I!
Seriously, thanks for this one. All of this needs to be said and all in all, all is well with the WNBA. And both Reese and Clark RULE!
In the end, people* just want to see exciting games played by skilled players they can cheer for. May you live long and prosper, WNBA.
* people who don't have their heads so far up their asses they can taste stomach acid, anyway

Going to be fun to watch her reduce turnovers and improve defensively.
