I want to know why Roberts let the tariffs ride for so long if it was illegal? they gave it enough time to destroy businesses and trade partnerships ??????

Ta, Dok. This is, of course, the perfect time to mention Howard Dean's 50 state strategy, despite my being a day late (I can't wonk at work).

*Please* tell me that header pic has been photoshopped.

Too bad you couldn't put his hair all spikey like he just been electrocuted.

Just want to chime in that AOC and Mamdani pressured the candidate trying to primary Jeffries to not run. He ultimately dropped out.

"By then, Trump may be deporting anyone who drives an EV to further protect the fossil fuels industry."

Looks like at least you and I will be deported, Doc. Not the worst news I've ever received given the current state of America. Of course, I've already self-deported to Canada. They might send you to El Salvador which would be a bummer.

Pexas Teat's avatar

As an EV driver, they can deport me to Norway or Sweden

Nice MCR shoutout at the end there, even if they're maybe technically more emo than goth (my Convergence 1 t-shirt says I have some standing to judge such things ;-) )

I want to see MAGA Mike's Grindr account....

MAGA MIKE JOHNSON *DECLINED* a request from the family of the Reverend Jesse Jackson -- 2x former candidate for POTUS -- for the Reverend's casket to sit in state at the Capitol Rotunda, citing a "rule" that only former Presidents deserved that honor ...

DESPITE THE FACT THAT CHARLIE KIRK'S CASKET SAT IN STATE IN THAT SAME ROTUNDA

Everybody remembers that right wing "media" frothed when Charlie Kirk's OWN WORDS were used to discredit him, right??

BREAKING NEWS from #RolandMartinUnfiltered: House Speaker Mike Johnson has denied a request from Democrats and the family of Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. For him to lie-in-state at the US Capitol

He’s still upset about Rosa Parks lying in state.

I believe the proper responsive phrase here is “F***k His Feelings”

It’s not just about the history he wants to deny & the erasure of American heroes —

it’s also about how I guess he didn’t think we’d spot the hypocrisy after pulling that vacuous bigot Charlie Kirk into the rotunda

Such angst. How ennui. Very melancholy

Sadly what these voting numbers say more than anything else is that people who would otherwise vote for a Democratic candidate---independents, democrats, and the two or three moderate Republicans--could not bring themselves to vote for a woman of color for president.

"M"'s avatar

Well ... yes

Not only is it exactly what it says -- but a whole lot of people have also been saying so for a really long time

So what does it say about the country that those people were continually, roundly ignored when they pointed to the problems of racism and sexism having the power to completely destroy the country ...?

Meh. She spent her whole campaign chasing Lynn Cheney.

I initially misread the title as "Mike johnson goes Goethe". I don't know how that would work, but it would probably be a step up.

Why So Lugubrious?'s avatar

It pains me to say it, truly, but there are likely a number of Democrats "fired up" this time because it's easier to get "fired up" when your candidate isn't a black woman.

Plenty of Democrats only gonna vote for Wipipo.

Lucius's avatar

Yup. As the last election taught us.😣

Don't go goth, Johnson, go into the corn field.

Republicans are running unopposed in 40% of Kentucky's state legislature races. Independents can't vote in primaries in the state. So it's a safe guess that the most Maga of each county will win the primary and then go on vacation until the general election where they'll win by default. Then they'll start drafting laws. My mom moved me here from Vermont as a toddler, couldn't she just have not?

"M"'s avatar

I don't dare ask when the primaries start -- but I sure do wish we'd known nationally about this sooner

Even Amy McGrath didn't say anything.

If people don't have notice IDK how anyone expects anyone else to win

Rachel Baldes's avatar

I think the primary is May, but and I never skip voting so it's clear as mud to everyone.

"M"'s avatar

Yeah - they obfuscate those filing rules and deadlines on purpose

Rachel Baldes's avatar

Yes, exactly. It's troubling to me that we've got a primary for the senate seat that might make it even harder for the winner (of the Democratic primary) to pick up more votes in the general election. The structure preventing independent voters from voting in primaries seems (in this state at least, but I think in general anywhere) to push candidates to the right regardless of party? I understand how technically it's possible to push Democratic candidates more left but I have yet to see that happen in practice. The fact that there was no one running against 40% of the state legislature really is disturbing. Frankfort isn't going to get less crazy or lose the supermajority if they're running unopposed. And those are the “more accessible” kinds of races. The state party really couldn't find anyone at all in those counties? 40% of them? Did they even talk to residents?

lordpnut's avatar

Force a "tae kwon dodo" moment where they're treeing each other with coon dogs in the primary.

The Andy Barr ad Wonkette wrote about isn't even the dumbest Andy Barr ad. It's maybe the more racist ad but not by much. The problem is being adjacent to armed idiots seems unsafe, how do I get them firing at each other from a distance?

Bubba Weep's avatar

I take it you mean that they should fire at each other point blank, while you remain safely ensconced at "a distance."

Rachel Baldes's avatar

I guess it depends on their skill level and what type of gun they're using to hunt. I'm not too young to know why the name Scooter Libby is applicable. Though he healed up fine.

WOKE MARXIST Sid the Sloth is STEALING the melons YOU worked hard to grow! ALL so he can teach our kids to worship SATAN and think being white is a CRIME!

Yeah, that could work!
