Books save lives. Including lives that rightwing extremists consider unimportant. That's the point, isn't it?

I remember going to Camp Pin Oak Girl Scout Camp in 1965 when 9-going-on-10. It was in Lake of the Ozarks, and I BEGGED my mother to let me go to one of their 2-week programs. I'm sorry to say that within 24 hours I regretted my decision and was about as miserable as a little girl could be for the next 2 weeks. Each afternoon we got a couple of hours to do our own thing before supper, so on the Third Day Of Hell I took out the book I had brought to read, which was "The Silver Chalice" by Thomas Costain. For the next 2 hours I was not living in Camp Pin Oak, I was living in 1st century Antioch. That book helped me survive that horrible place, and I learned a very important lesson - that books are a portal to another world.
