Really, this time he was only blinking Oh, Ben Carson. You just can't help yourself, can you? Things come out of your mouth all funny, and everyone knows what you meant, but the way you said it will inevitably stick with you, won't it? Well don't you worry, Dr. Carson! You just rest assured that while Yr Wonkette is required to make fun of the dumb-sounding thing you said, we know what you were shooting for, and then we'll move on to making fun of you on far more important matters of substance, OK?
Let's assume that several Trump holdings in NYC get the 421-a tax break, they are required to register as rent-regulated apartments with the city — but an investigation by ProPublica last year found that nearly 2/3rds of landlords had not filed the required paperwork. Quell surprise. They are intentionally NOT renting to Section 8 applicants even with a 25 year tax break.
They receive part of the property tax break that cost the city an estimated $1.4 billion in 2016 alone. Say, that is a lot of public safety or other city services that aren't funded.
Lizzie's question is absolutely within bounds, and these fakakta tax breaks for developers and landlords really need serious reform.
Just cut back by 10% each year until there is no more problem, is what may have been suggested.
"At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge, ... it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the Poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."
"Are there no prisons?"
"Plenty of prisons..."
"And the Union workhouses." demanded Scrooge. "Are they still in operation?"
"Both very busy, sir..."
"Those who are badly off must go there."
"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."
"If they would rather die," said Scrooge, "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."
After a lifetime of work, I recently got on public assistance, including SNAP (food stamps) and Medicaid. I am going to apply for SCRIE, which will freeze my rent at its current amount. My housing "allowance," which is paid directly to the landlord, is just about 26% of the rent. My Legal Aid attorney, who kept me from getting evicted (long term unemployed through NO fault of my own), explained that the rate was set in the 1970s, when it would have paid the rent.
Ben Carson has NO idea what people like me are going through. NONE.
"Even social insurance programs like Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, which he believes are ‘socialist-leaning"
I mean, I would say socialist. So he got something half right. Maybe Ben's condition is improving. What the fuck is Ben's condition?! He is like a cross between narcolepsy and dementia, being played by Bill Cosby after giving his date the wrong drink.
Hello: Get off the damn dope, get a damn job you bum and be a maker, not a sissy taker. Besides, your poor mother and you were abandoned by your drunk, drug-addicted father resulting your dependence on government programs.
Hello: What an idiot you are. Instead of HUD, which is a government program that keeps people in poverty like you so you vote Democrat because the Democrats come around every four years for your vote. Wise up!
Damn, this is some embarrassingly sad trolling. For one thing, HUD is a department, not a program. For another, your trolling is weak and sad. Now go. You have shamed yourself.

The Dems work hard to keep everyone poor. Why do people vote for a party that wants to keep them poor and needy? They tell you that you are weak and need them as your daddy.

Grandstanding and filibustering - and hoping the GOP go full power-mad hubris over the next 18 months.

I like to keep it concise.
Well, yes. That too.

That's an Adventist thing.
Well, OK then. I guess I made a mistake. St. Elizabeth has no flaws. *eyeroll*

Absolutely. The assholes deserve everything they get. But their children do not. I'm still hanging in there for them.
