I don't really see sports as having a positive impact on young people. It takes up hours a week that they should be studying. It's all about winning at any cost. And if it's a violent sport, it teaches them that violence is the way to solve problems. Plus, they have CTE to look forward to when they get older.

How many times have we read about high school sports stars getting scholarships to college and having to take remedial everything because being a jock was made more important than literacy? Even when they get to college, they're given a pass on getting good grades, because winning=dollars from alumni and TV, and getting drafted by a pro team is more important.

Some kids just aren't athletic, but they're forced to pick a sport(thanks, JFK!), which they'll fail at, and be insulted by coaches and peers. I've heard how coaches talk to kids. Better they spend the time that would have been taken playing sports by taking a real class instead.

Politicians on TW should just not lecture, full-stop.
