The gaslighting is great in this one. "I'm going to completely reinvent the words my husband chose, and I wish that everyone who read or heard those words would have done the exact same complete change to their meaning and context as I'm doing before I had to go to the trouble of doing all this." Sorry, that's bullshit. He's responsible for the words he said, they were not taken out of context, he didn't mean what she says he meant, he meant exactly what he said, and he's said or written nearly identical, or worse, things in the past.

She was obviously sent out with a script, (because that made no damn sense) to do damage control. She may think he is still the nicer man she married, but he's not, and she needs to realize that. She's too smart not to. Of course she's not the first woman to be conned by a republican smarmy loathesome creature.

Usha Joy Waterford, er, I mean Vance, failed spectacularly in trying to explain her commander’s, uh, husband’s insults in pure trad wife fashion, “…he made a quip in service of making a point that he wanted to make that was substantive, and it had actual meaning”. Sorry honey, nice try, but no one with half a brain is falling for that word salad. There was no alternative meaning to be found in there, let alone the couch cushions, other than a giant insult to a chunk of the population that is already pissed off and being threatened by maga-repub policies.

So she predictably turns out to be the self-serving piece of shit most of us probably already thought she was because look who she married to. Two turds in the same bowl. Get fucked, Shady and Usha.

Don't forget she clerked for Brett Kavanaugh.

I want to recommend a book to everyone, if they have not read it. It's called "On Tyranny" and it is the most precise discussion about how the lies, the propaganda, the chaos, and so many other things are linked to the emergence of totalitarianism in Europe in the 20s with Musselini and Stalin, and the 30s with Hitler, and makes the connection to a certain president. Even if your knowledgeable about history and political science, I still recommend it because it gets into the weeds, pointing out the small steps taken by wannabe authoritarians and their supporters that eventually coalesce into full-on tyranny. Most importantly, it discusses how to fight back. Resist! Resist! Resist.

He will pull the same stolen election shit when he loses and this time, he must be called out as a dangerous liar, every single chance we get. We must continue to resist, because this will not end unless he lands in prison, or shuffles off this mortal coil.

Read the book. It's one of the most important books I've read about the dangers of a second Trump administration and how he is following the authoritarian playback, step by step.

Sounds like Usha and Melania will really hit it off. So much easier to latch on to your spouse's power than acquire power on your own.

We should make a game that trumpists can play that forces them to try to figure out who is the better immigrant wife, Usha or Melania. At first blush it's obvious that trumpers would pick Melania due to her whiteness now orangeness. But Melania did all those girl on girl soft porny pictures and videos and such and that's bad according to Republicans. I want to see them fight over that.

At least it gave Robyn a chance to make us all laugh? Those wingnuts really do think we are all stupid.

"The reality is, he made a quip in service of making a point that he wanted to make that was substantive, and it had actual meaning." I thought this was a brilliant piece of satire until I looked again and noticed the quotes around it. I can't believe she actually uttered that word salad.

She's an attorney married to a right-wing piece of shit. That word salad was expected. A little bit more on the nose then I thought she would couch it, but still very much expected. In short, Usha is an asshole just like her husband.

For a lawyer, she’s not particularly articulate.

Expand full comment

On a scale of 1 to 10 she scores a 5 for being articulate in general for attorneys, but a 9.5 for conservative attorneys

She clerked for Kavanaugh. So yes, this tracks.

"JD absolutely, at the time and today, would never, ever, ever want to say something to hurt someone who was trying to have a family who really, you know, was struggling with that"

`

Literally nobody thought "childless cat ladies" referred to people with fertility issues.

I never had fertility issues, at least not as far as I know. The entirety of my 20s, 30s, and 40s were spent trying NOT to "have a family", by which I suppose she must mean have children.

I was and am childless by choice, because I had no interest in bearing or raising children.

I know goddamn good and well that Shady Vance was referring to me and women like me, because I've met him many times before, and guys like that have shitfits at the thought that any woman, anywhere, is not chained in the kitchen.

She is gaslighting which makes her a piece of shit asshole

So by, “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too,”, he ACTUALLY meant something entirely different and unrelated?

being the partner of a politician must be hard tho, when you're expected to go out there and fix a mess they made. I'm not saying she shouldn't be fact checked etc, but she had to know going in that she was spouting bullshit for the sake of her husbands career, and what kind of shitty self esteem would you have to have to be willing to do that?
