When I was a high-altitude air traffic controller fifty years ago it was so obvious to me that rush hours were caused by airlines all wanting to depart around the same time, to "be competitive." I quit after three years although I also knew that the stress would kill me and I wouldn't have stayed much longer for that reason.
Air traffic controllers have always been people who know they can never make that kind of money doing anything else, so they stay and die young.
One of the reasons I quit AARP years ago was I was sick of Jane Bryant Quinn's constant harping "Work till you drop dead to maximize your Social Security benefits." Hard to believe people bought that shit. Probably still do.
