Oh, and a couple of my dad's best friends were Armenian. I never heard any stories about their lives before they came to the U.S. I was just a child.

What stuns me is that Israel refuses to acknowledge the Armenian genocide. Individual Israeli leaders have acknowledged it, but the state refuses to do so officially, even now, under Erdogan, as Turkey ceases to be a reliable buffer against enemies in the region.
National pride gets in the way of admitting any wrong doing. Japan has long refused to acknowledge the atrocities it committed in WW II.
And if Turkey hadn’t long be a strategic geopolitical ally, the US could have openly acknowledged the Armenian genocide without fearing blowback ages ago.
