My uncle qualified for medicaid because of mental illness that makes working impossible for him. He is on antipsychotics and in TX, it's covered by insurance companies and reimbursed by the state. So to treat his tardive dyskinesia (tic side effects of antipsychotics), his doctor wanted to put him on an off-label medication. The insurance, of course, is refusing to cover it. They're instead trying to push another cheaper one.

My father had a severe case of cellulitis that got into his lymphatic system, so it resurfaces every few years. Only one known antibiotic treats it, and it's about $1200 for the pills. So the insurance won't cover it, either. My parents had to petition the pharmaceutical company to get it down to a more reasonable cost.

Point being, nobody should enjoy having a middle man getting in the way between people and the medications they need. NOBODY.

It's been decades of active lobbying to be able to legalize and push misinformation from those who benefit from it. That's why they're so intent on "both sides being treated equal" when they know their side is b.s. And if they can tie it to tribalism, it stays all the stronger with them. That's why you see so many Trump people treating politics like it's sports where their political party 'won' and the legal issues don't actually matter to them.
