"SOCIALISM!! BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA!" does not constitute an argument.

Despite his pretentions of being above it all, Bill Maher has been a right wing ass-licker for at least 20 years, and a libertarian asshole before that.

I didn't give a shit about anything he had to say 40 years ago; how much do I care now?

Socialism and Communism have the failure rate that they do because Capitalism shoves a wrench in every upstart country that tries it.

I agree with all the criticisms of Bill Maher such as Marycat2021's succinct description of him as "an asshole and Islamophobic moron and been an asshole and moron for years..." And I can't stand his insistence that his studio audience laugh and clap continuously, with rare exception, after every comment he makes, no matter how disgusting. I also think that many people describing themselves as democratic socialists needlessly give their opposition and easy way to label them as dangerous. In fact, what is being called democratic socialism is social democracy. Social democracy more accurately describes Medicare, Social Security, and other policies and programs addressing issues and needs which capitalism does not and will not. Denmark, Portugal, and Sweeden are social democratic not socialist; they do not favor abolishing capitalism. In the United States, moving from capitalism to socialism would involve an enormous amount of violence because capitalists will never give up their power and money because of the results of elections.

Maher is an asshole and an Islamophobic moron, and has been an asshole and a moron for years, which explains why Trump doesn't try to get him fired.

A man's reach should exceed his grasp or he's just Bill Maher.

I had to look it up. Actually, the GDP of Japan is about 5 times larger than Poland's. As you would expect. On a per capita basis, it's still a big lead for Japan, 36k vs 27k. Anyway, Japan is also a capitalist country, so what is Maher's point?

Why does he still have a show? Like, surely it’s operating at a loss at this point.

Ta, Robyn. I would love it if NYC became far more socialist.

Hey Maher, you have never been funny. The only time you get a laugh on your show is from your writers' material. I have to assume the reason you have gotten as far as you have in show biz is because of blackmail, bribery or blowing. Your net worth is supposedly $140 million. You could live very comfortably on that for the rest of your life. Do the world a favor and retire.

Perhaps an appropriate time to relate my stumbling breakup with Bill.

I was becoming increasingly tired of his obsession with PC/Cancel Culture/Wokism whatever it was called at the time. Lots of people came on no one ever heard of who agreed with him one hundred percent and were touting books with cherry-picked stats to prove Bill was right.

His New Rule was a defense of Chris Matthews, who'd just retired from MSNBC. Bill's good friend.

the complaints about sexual harassment and assault by women employees were basically boiled down to if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen and bitches be lyin'.

The next week's episode was some milestone best of episode, and it featured all those things that really made the show stand out, mostly the guests, not Bill, so I came back the following week.

His New Rule was that overweight people didn't know being overweight was a health danger because family, friends, even medical personnel, wouldn't tell them because they were afraid of being accused of fat-shaming. Not Bill, though. He'd stand up to those moral scolds and tell the obese the truth.

And then proceeded to do five minutes of fat jokes. Never went back.
