Ice-bots!! You know, like ice trays-- molds that freeze water into whimsical shapes, melt and then re-freeze into whimsical, etc. Except that they can move, and have, what!? They have free will!!?? Our friggin ice-lords, shoulda known.

Yeah, this is the actualthing that occurs to me very often. What is the end game? Total unemployment?? Replaced by what? Everyone seems to be ignoring the obvious, inevitable result of this thinking/these processes.

UBI is going to become necessary in this generation. There are a *lot* of people who just aren't smart or ambitious enough to do anything more complicated than walk a security guard patrol or was dishes. Spot from Boston Dynamics can already do the former, and there are at least three companies fairly advanced in replacing the latter.

Tests have shown (working from memory) that a team of half a dozen lawyers given a pile of contracts with deliberately-placed errors will find about 80% of them in six hours, while an AI will find ~90% of them in 26 seconds. Only the inertia of the insurance industry keeps chain store pharmacists employed. Farcebook is already automatically checking and fixing human-written code, and Google has had AIs writing code for years.

It's a brave new world coming.
