One of the worst novels ever written, and not just for its political tone, vile racism, and obsession with gore: it's badly organized, the plotline and characters are full of holes, lacks copy-editing, and the main character (Earl Turner) disappears from the book and world for a year with no explanation.

In correctional settings its not unusual for men like this to get a serious beat down. Inmates do it because even they're offended by the crimes committed and some, in a very twisted way, are looking for a kind of redemption. Those are usually ones on a life w/o parole situation and they literally have nothing to lose. Institutional staff usually wind up putting them in special housing situations and protective custody (nice words for solitary) to ensure that they survive their sentences. This isn't fantasy, it's reality.
If/when general population learns someone is a child molester, they do have ways of getting to them. Paying off guards to look the other way, is one method. The guards don't really care for having child rapists in their care, either. Epstein, for example (regardless of whether or not you think it was murder/suicide) was left alone long enough for his death to occur.
And part of the reason actual pedophiles get cush jobs is because they're extremely well-behaved in prison. It's easy when their source of temptation isn't around. It can often play a part in why they're more likely to get approved for parole. Good behavior and all that shit.

A lot of the evans keep pushing to have age of consent dropped to single digits so they don't get caught in these crimes.
