MAGA Mike’s genius idea of demanding border reform before Ukraine funding while simultaneously saying they won’t pass border reform until Orange Jesus is back stinking up the White House guarantees that everyone will know Republicans aren’t serious about governing.

Putin is watching what the GOP does. In addition to thinking he can win by wearing Ukraine down if the US stops sending military assistance, sort of like how we assisted Britain in defending themselves against Germany before we entered WW II, he thinks if we won't even send equipment and supplies to Ukraine, how likely is it we will send in our troops if he tries to roll over our NATO allies like Estonia. The three Baltic states have a total population of just over 6 million so without NATO intervention even a weakened Russia could occupy them and give Russia a commanding military presence in a body of water that borders Poland, Finland, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark.

One thing we do know is that if Trump is elected again he will start his bullshit about NATO paying us, then use that as an excuse to withdraw from that pact. What the Republicans are doing is following borders from their master. Remember just a few months ago when Lindsey Graham said aid to Ukraine was essential to stop Russia? Now he thinks it's not so important after all. We need to build that wall and mine our southern border before we help Ukraine any more.

But I want the Republicans to imagine what would have happened before we entered WW II if we had not provided material assistance to Britain and they fell to Germany before Germany declared war against us. Without Britain as a base to launch attacks on Germany, Germany could have used troops defending against an attack from Britain on the north to bolster their presence in southern Europe, helped Italy secure North Africa since Britain would not be a threat there, occupy Egypt and the Suez Canal, and possibly have had the resources to defeat Russia. It's not a hard conclusion to make, especially if Hitler had not attacked Russia but had consolidated his gains in all of Europe including Britain, adding North Africa and much of the Middle East, even then a major oil location. There was no Israel then either. Maybe we could have successfully fought Japan but without Britain as a base I doubt we could have done much to counter Hitler. Especially without Air Base Britain to launch bombers to destroy his military capacity. And D Day would have been much more difficult if we had to cross the entire Atlantic Ocean rather than just the English Channel.

Russia may use a defeated Ukraine to start nibbling away at countries that used to comprise the USSR confident the Trump owned Republican party would do nothing to defend Europe against Russian aggression, saying what has Europe done for us lately. And is Putin really that bad a person anyway. And with NATO falling apart it would be hard for bordering countries like Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Serbia to counter even a weakened Russia. I don't think Putin is stupid enough to threaten Germany, France, and Britain but he can cause a lot of problems in Eastern Europe by restoring much of the USSR and making him a more formidable foe to Western democracies, including us.

>I’m also tired of Republicans acting like Barack Obama personally invaded Afghanistan. The conflict began on George W. Bush’s watch.

I think it's been true of most of our neo-colonial wars. However shitty things may get for awhile, things will never stabilize unless we GTFO.

They scream about closing the border, but when they take steps to do that, the rural ag-based economies that they disproportionately represent get fucked b/c they're dependent on foreign migrant workers.

They don't "solve" the "problem" when they're in power because they don't want to and it's not a problem to them. Undocumented migration is a key plank in their economic platform.

Likewise asylum from abusive governments is a key plank in their public-image platform. They want desperately for everyone to know that they support instant and automatic refugee status for Cubans who enter the US unlawfully, because you can't expect desperate people distrusted by their government to walk up to a US embassy or consulate and request a visa. They just also want everyone to know that they relentlessly oppose treating folks similarly if they are escaping tyrannical governments in Central America. There's no principled difference here, of course, because the GOP has no principles.

They're frequently dependent on unlawfully present foreign workers (same for the building trades and hospitality). R's whine about "illegals," but you never hear them advocating that we hold employers accountable. We need a non-immigrant visa option that allows people to be in the system, pay taxes, and be subject to I9. As long as people think they can get work (even if it's terrible or even if their 12 year olds is hauling tar up a roof with them), they're going to risk coming in because its got to be better than where they are now. Way too many "legit" employers take advantage of people who are desperate for employment and have no support or meaningful advocacy in the US.

And yet, their MAGA Boss PAB was known for illegally hiring undocumented foreign workers in NYC to do construction of his shit castles on the cheap. Mind you, I believe they were mostly Eastern European, so WHITE.
