Who is this Irish person (Andrew Cuomo) of who you speak?

Priceofcivilization's avatar

Tough choice there. I like them both. Honestly, while it is not politically correct to defend Israel in any way, the truth is Hamas will kill civilians in Israel just as soon as they can re-arm. They have to be stopped. But the Gazans have to want them to stop, not any outsiders.

Ta, Dok. I was proud of Goldman during the impeachment of That Thing in the Offal Office, but his Israeli flag-waving is too much for me. He's our rep, and I hope Lander takes that seat. Mamdani needs as many allies in Congress as he can get.

beb's avatar

One of the things I liked about Gov. Walz was his folksy approach to campaigning and his habit of being blunt. He Republicans "weird" which they are but which so much of the political world seemed afraid to say. If that's Lander approach to his campaign I'm all for him. Though as a Michigander I can;t vote for him.

Pope Buck I's avatar

Al Gore was completely screwed by his campaign advisors. He's gotten so much more popular in the years since, being much more loose and able to laugh at himself.

"Lander also made national headlines in June when he was arrested while trying to escort an asylum seeker safely out of the Manhattan federal building, after the government abruptly dismissed his asylum case so they could deport him faster."

It's time for governors in blue states with a blue statehouse to follow the lead of Gov Pritzker:

> "Following incidents at courthouses, hospitals and daycare centers, Illinois Gov JB Pritzker signed a sweeping bill into law on Tuesday.

[...]

Illinois courthouses are now off-limits to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents hoping to make an immigration arrest. Pritzker signed a bill into law that bars immigration enforcement inside or within 1,000 feet of a courthouse building.

[...]

Illinois' new law also requires hospitals, public universities and community colleges and day care facilities to develop plans and procedures in case federal immigration agents show up at their establishments." https://abc7chicago.com/post/gov-jb-pritzker-sign-bill-creating-more-protections-immigrants-illinois-la-villita-community-church-chicago/18267491/

Goldman blew it for us with his refusal to endorse Mamdani. He was already suspect for his failure to speak out against Israel's was in Gaza. Hey buddy, NY Jews don't want an AIPAC stooge representing us. I endorse Brad Lander

Goin Green's avatar

Well... he's a Goldman... not exactly known for being socialismy are they? A true socialistic domocratic movement is scarier to the establishment than a fuming, farting, failure of a fascist like Shitler.

satch's avatar

"Goldman was among the Democrats who claimed — not very convincingly — that Mamdani hadn’t sufficiently condemned antisemitism by not repudiating strongly enough the protest slogan “globalize the intifada,” a position that Mamdani never supported and never said himself."

I was really impressed with Goldman when I was watching the impeachment hearing, which is why this stupid bullshit is so disappointing.

I feel the same, although I still miss Carolyn Maloney.

M-i-a-m-i-running out of time (IYKYK) has a democratic mayor who is a woman.

Mr blob's avatar

Even if they were both valid candidates

There should never be consternation by anyone when facing a primary contest. No representative occupation should be treated as the divine right of kings, regardless of how many decades you’ve held it.

If you want better policy you have to have better candidates (with the understanding of course to vote blue no matter who)

Erisian's avatar

And if the "blue no matter who" isn't the better candidate? Given a choice between a moderate Repub (don't tell me that they don't exist) and Andrew Cuomo, who would you vote for? Would you cast your ballot for Henry Cuellar given his positions on abortion (against) and homeland security (pro-DHS and its actions)?

Someone who votes straight ticket is the epitome of a lazy voter who won't take the time to see where the candidates stand on issues important to their constituency.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Moderate Republicans don't exist. They are now Independents. They would get absolutely no support or funding from the Republican Party.

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

Bit of a strawman there. Who is running against Cuellar in the primary? And who is running for the GOP in that race?

Because depending on THOSE answers, your question answers itself.

Erisian's avatar

Sorry, but I don't see part of what I posted as a strawman argument. A strawman is a misrepresentation or an exaggeration, as you know:

* Cuellar is on the record as anti-abortion in opposition to the party

> "Cuellar, the sole anti-abortion Democrat in his caucus, is rejecting colleagues’ calls to support federal protections for abortion. In fact, Cuellar is advocating for more acceptance among Democrats for those who take a different view on the issue." https://punchbowl.news/article/campaigns/henry-cuellar-abortion-stance-breaks-from-democrats-greg-casar/

◾ The only Dem in the House Dem Caucus with an anti-abortion stance, so where was I misrepresenting him on this?

◾ He is correct that there are close-minded Dems on this and other issues, but he seems to be saying that the caucus should be more accepting of his POV when it comes to policy, and should be included it as a disagreement within the party platform. (I might be misinterpreting this, but that's how it reads to me and I don't think I'm alone here.)

* I do grant that his thoughts on current DHS actions are in line with the Democrats' platform: tighter border security but using 21st century technology, has called the Fulvous Fuckwad's border wall as "a 14th century solution," and has shown empathy for those caught by ICE/CBP. I was wrong to include this in my post and I apologize for it.

* Rep Cuellar was used as an example and I wasn't targeting him specifically.

* I notice that you didn't care to defend the DINO: Andrew Cuomo (there's very little, if anything, that is defensible when it comes to that asshole).

* I also noted that you didn't comment on my opinion of those who just vote straight ticket, which makes me believe that you aren't part of that demographic. I hope I'm correct on this.

* As for "Who is running against Cuellar in the primary? And who is running for the GOP in that race?"

> "Cuellar, who has the backing of Democratic leadership, has been primaried twice due to his views on abortion. ***The Texas Democrat won his primary last cycle by less than one point against progressive activist Jessica Cisneros.

This cycle, though, Cuellar didn’t face a real challenge***. Two Republicans are vying in a primary to run against Cuellar in November. But his district leans Democratic and Cuellar easily won the general election in 2022." [emphasis added] ibid

(There is a yuge checkmark in the "for" column concerning Cuellar: the Cantaloupe Codpiece has said he is "disloyal" for not becoming a RINO after pardoning him.)

Not going to lie, I'm a big fan of Goldman. Although I'm also a big fan of Mamdani and I didn't realize that Goldman hadn't endorsed him which I considered cowardice from other incumbent Democrats. I will always treasure Goldman's response when a GOP Whistleblower/Liar was being questioned in front of an investigative committee and Goldman asked him if he was paid by conservative groups for his testimony. When lying whistleblower replied that he had received donations from them, Goldman responded with "So, you're a charitable organization?" HAHAHA!

Doot doot doot..... breaking news

Orange Boy had the US Navy act like pirates and seize an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela. Arrrrgh! The destination is believed to be China!

In other news, Orange Boy blew Bubba (pictures) and is a close associate of Jeffrey Epstein. If I were a guy named Nicolas, I would call a friend named Xi.

Goin Green's avatar

Trump blew Bubba on film?

That's what it'll take for me to believe it.

But if he did, did blowing dudes just became MAGA approved?

How progressive of them!

Goin Green's avatar

It just doesn't sound like a believable story to me. Narcissistic behavior rarely manifests in a submissive way... it would be believable if I heard he made some dude do it in a room full of people (Diddy stories), but this just isn't believable for me as is...

I'm on board. If we get to vote in 2028 and by some miracle a Dem wins... I'm fucking switching sides if we start that "reaching across the aisle" shit! I'll go over there and let Josh Shapiro smooch my newly conservatized ass until we lose the House... then I'll be back.

According to emails from Epstein there are pictures.

If they were progressive the pictures would have been released by now.

My grandma died from Alzheimer's and didn't babble like that before the end. But then she came from a long line and led to a line of smart, educated people who were all middle-class and expected to learn and work.

In her final break with reality, she and her roommate firmly believed the nursing home was their college. And she played the organ for all the hymns until she physically couldn't.

She actually got a bit less fractious then; she was kind of a terror before!
