Now that 2013 is getting death paneled by that patriarchal sombitch Father Time, all Very Serious Journalists must submit their Best Of StuffTMlisticles and reviews so they do not actually have to work on New Year's Day but can instead nurse their hangovers with some hair of the dog or whatever. While we at this ol' mommyblog are not Very Serious Journalists, we also too must nurse our hangovers because it is a day that ends in "y," and so we are pleased to announce that after serious scrutiny, we have determined, with very objective analytics (i.e., a discussion in our sekrit chatcave), the Most Bestest Blog of the Year. And the award goes to ...
"And the rule of reality . . . gave way to some politicians' belief that they were entitled to both their own opinions and their own facts."
True enough. Odd to hear it coming from Coburn, though.
Mainly because of Democracy Now, Flashpoints, and Counter Spin, but also because of a general focus on underreported stories. The political reporting is unconstrainedly leftist so there's clarity about its particular bias. Along with Al Jazeera and the Guardian, I rely on Pacifica for decent coverage of the Mideast, for example.
As it happens, my local affiliate is batshit crazy (e.g., there's a program run by some Bronx Irish Americans devoted to how great it would be if the IRA would just go back to doing terrorism etc.), but the network is serious. I mean, you have to take all news outlets with a grain of salt, but NPR has just completely collapsed; I can't listen to it anymore.
ETA: My local station, WBAI, may be batshit, but I still support it because some of its local programming is excellent, and also I'm a softy and Woody Guthrie and blahblahblah. But if you're going to stream, go with KPFA.
I know this is weird...but the girl with the phone unsettles me. Maybe it's the combination of come hither eyes and the possibility of Chris Hansen on the other line.
PBS Newshour just reported Iraq had 7818 civilian deaths in 2013. And they still haven't put up a statue to honor Dubya for bringing them their freedoms.
The hell with NPR; go with Pacifica streaming.
What's Moon Zappa got to do with anthropology?

They said that last year, too, and I am disappoint.

To heck with first class...I just want to know how to get to the sekret chat thingy.

He looks like an aging Dennis Miller.
Wonkette - Bestest Ever!
After all, who put the Cox in Ana Marie?
Squirrels are rats in fur coats with nice tails.

Woohoo. American Physics Society conference in March in Denver. You won't be able to see your hand in front of your face with all the smoke.
Wow, talk about late articles without an election or debate to cause it! Sorry I quit paying attention about 5pm CST. Anybody up this early?
I thought the lists were on Harpers?
On the internet no one can smell. Well, perhaps by the writing or comments they make.
Am I too late to be the first to remark that this post is just like Hitler? Yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaw! First Hitler! Of. The. Year.
