Looking at labor statistics from the 1880s through 1980s, there was a pretty steady increase in workforce participation rates for women (outside the home, non-farm work) with two spikes during the 1910s and 1940s. In other words, women have been moving from working on the farm to working in factories, offices, and stores at a consistent rate for more than a century.
