<i>“I find it hard to believe anyone was held up in this area in the ’70s. It was very safe,” Danny Murphy, former owner of Danny’s restaurant, told Pagesix.com.</i>

I've been lying since 1981 about having been robbed at gunpoint in the upper-middle-class community of Oak Park, Illinois. Rubes fall for the story because they actually buy my bullshit that miscreants use things I call 'cars' (what a stupid word is that?) to travel from one place to another to commit crime.

I've been thinking of that very <i>This American Life</i> segment over the last few days.

Look, I have nothing against Williams, but the fact is that this "memory creep" is the sort of red meat we'd be tearing into if it happened to Rush, Bill O or Fuckabee. In the meantime, Colin Jost is sucking away on the Weakened Update on SNL. There's an obvious solution here-- Put Williams on SNL. He's done it once before, and he could certainly add gravitas and humor to the show.

I wish people would get this bent out of shape about lying when it involves politicians.

...I heard that Brian Williams single handedly lied us into the Iraq, Afghanistan and Peloponnesian wars!!!

<em>"David Folkenflik’s piece notes a 2011 Harvard study that argues memory is “prone to distortions that can have serious consequences in everyday life.”</em>

...I don't think you need a Harvard study to prove this hypothesis. Just look at pretty much every argument from conservatives that Reaganomics worked, racism doesn't exist, the Iraq War was going perfect until Obama came into office, etc. etc. etc

Too bad people don't give a fuck when newscasters lie about important stuff...

Let me say this, with no snark: I love Brian Williams. I think he has gravitas, but he's also got a sense of humor. If he's got enough ego to be on TV, he's probably got enough ego to puff himself up with heroic stories. I'm inclined to forgive him for that. But seriously, Brian - your stories are interesting enough, considering the people you meet in your day job.
