Bukkake Party Tonight
Friday, Feb. 13: Talib Kweli, one of underground hip-hop’s most notorious MCs, plays Sonar tonight in Baltimore. Jean Grae, a female rapper from NYC by way of Cape Town, opens. [ Sonar ]
Bukkake Party Tonight obviously didn't get the memo that kids these days don't listen to punk or hardcore anymore. They also get the award for having the worst band name ever (or best, depending on how you feel about bukkake). At the Talking Head, 10PM. [ Sonar/Talking Head ]
Sunday, Feb. 15: It’s the final round of the National Symphony Orchestra’s Young Soloists’ Competition at the Kennedy Center. High school kids will compete for $10,000 and the chance to play a solo with the NSO. Their whole lives are pretty much on the line, so you can look forward to some waterworks and temper tantrums at the end. 6PM. [Kennedy Center ]
Tuesday, Feb. 17: Detroit rockersThe Von Bondies perform at Jammin Java Café along with L.A. indie-punk band Nico Vega. Both groups play no-nonsense, straight-up rock n’ roll, a breath of fresh air from the digitalized music of their peers -- AND they both have very SEXY female band members. 8PM. [ Jammin Java ]
Wednesday, Feb. 18: Ne-Yo is annoying, and his Michael Jackson/Usher rip-off song"Because of You" is even more annoying. Don't confuse him with Chris Brown, who has a similar voice (he's the guy whostrangled Rihanna during the Grammy awards). Ne-Yo plays tonight at the DAR Constitution Hall, 7PM. Thursday, Feb. 19: If you were into crap East Coast-y college bands like Guster and Ben Folds, you will be thrilled to discover that MAE is back together and on tour. 7PM at Jammin Java. [Jammin Java ]
