Business Owners Being Dicks: Your Week In Review

Oh look! Another douchebag business owner is doing another douchebag thing. We kinda think that dude from Whole Foods should take this week's prize, because he had the two-fer: calling Obamacare "fascism" and explaining he's not a climate change denier - he just thinks climate change is happening and it is real and spectacular. However, Mr. Terry Lee of Terry Lee Forensics (inventive name, bro) in Utah is running a close second:  

Cedar City business owner who let two workers go because of Obamacare costs said he picked the pair in large part because of their support for President Obama...

"Love it. We had to let two employees go to cover new Obongocare [sic] costs and increased taxes," Lee wrote. "Found two Obongo supporters and gave them the news yesterday. They wanted the idiot in the Whitehouse [sic], they reap the benefits."

Note to self: work in "Obongo" when we run out of times we can use B. Barry Bamz, muslin, Obummer, etc.

Mr. Terry Lee of Terry Lee Forensics, what you did was not illegal. In fact, the good folks at the Salt Lake Tribune checked into that for you, because you weren't sure:  

"Is your political affiliation protected?" he added, explaining that he thought what he did was not illegal. "I don’t believe it is, but I don’t know."

Federal and Utah law do not prevent private employers from firing employees on the basis of political affiliation. The one exception is if they are a government employee.

"It doesn’t violate any of the statutes we enforce, which cover race, religion, age, gender, national origin," said Mary Jo O’Neill, regional attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in the Phoenix office, which covers Utah.

Although other states do prohibit such firings based on local statutes, Lauren Scholnick, a Salt Lake City labor and employment attorney, said that in Utah "there isn’t a clear statute that prohibits someone from firing someone based on their political views in private employment."

OK OK OK. So we can't mock you for doing something illegal, but we can mock you for being a total dick. In fact, it is pretty easy to mock you for being a dick! We don't even have to really add anything more to this post except to say that we hope that you experience a decline in both customers AND skilled workers for whatever the hell it is you do.

Oh. We're also gonna point out that White House is two words, not one, because we are not above mocking you for being an idiot as well.
