Excellent. The best people go where they can do the most good. Trump and RFK Jr. will probably blame Biden for the next wave of Bird Flu, Small pox, or cholera, while Trump chimes in "I don't take any responsibility at all." Just like he did the last time. Protect yourselves and do not believe anything these idiots tell you except for the not taking responsibility part. They will kill you and only offer thoughts and prayers. Welcome to the 11th Century.

Katelyn Jetalina's YLE Substack was my go-to newsletter in the early years of the Covid pandemic and it's good to hear she will be an advisor to Governor Newsom's new group. In general, we on the West Coast are going our own way on public health in the Trump 2.0 era

CA is already a leader in pesticide and chemical monitoring.

So, we're all going to have to move to the woke utopia of Pacifica if we want to lead the good life?

Michael's avatar

It wouldn't hurt 🙂

Trump is trying to ignore the Left Coast. So we're ignoring him. We don't feel the need to secede yet but in every way that matters, we are indeed going out own way.

We could go it alone aside from military. Which is kind of a deal-breaker, sadly.

Michael's avatar

Actually I think we could from an industrial perspective. Especially if we joined Canada, which at this point I wouldn't mind at all.

Biff52 Lost Canadian's avatar

We’d have to bring Oregon and Washington along, too.

Michael's avatar

Oh, the western parts of both might (I'm based on Portland) but I think it's too advanced a concept for most. They haven't realized that there are really two countries here that nothing is going to reunite short of a war with a foreign enemy.

I'm in east-central California, and my neighbors would not be in favor of it at all. They don't like being part of California at all!

Two nations, uneasily coexisting. 🙁

Ta, Dok. My stomach turned when I read the new measles stats. That plague nearly killed me at age 6. My mother, of blessed and cursed memory, knew what to do when my temperature hit the top of the thermometer. She was a nurses aide during WWII; they did actual nursing because most of the nurses were deployed. She put me in a slush bath, which is ice water and ice. I couldn't eat, so I was given liquid Jell-O. There were quilts hanging in front of my windows to block the light so I wouldn't be blinded. Of course, all this was before MMR. I got them all. I'm glad I lived. I fear many children will not.

California can kiss herd immunity goodbye! Enjoy yourselves you cowards! While we dig our own graves!!

The Left Coast puts out a welcome mat for you Hank

Overthinking is what you are paid to do, Dok, d3ftly demonstrated by commenting on your own commentary.

Especially when comments aren't allowed. Bold!

Fuck Around And Findout. I hope Commander in Chief Newsom has his PR people announce this in a way that mocks Pete Hegseth.

Cersei from Game of Thrones comes to mind.

Hmm, parallel agencies, seems like with that kind of stuff in place a state would have a much easier time transitioning to being…not a state anymore.

Welcome to the birth of the Western Democratic Union. We will add other words to our name as we think of nouns and adjectives that will make MAGAhats froth.

lemonfluff's avatar

Fingers crossed Colorado will ultimately stand with the WDU, and let’s face it, the summits where we all decide on the best, wokest, most froth-worthy terminology are gonna be lit

Democrat Jaha Howard won a State Senate special election run off on Tuesday in GA.

In KY Democrat Gary Clemons did likewise. The blue tide rolls slowly in.

This is *exactly* the kind of thing I've been wanting to see Dems-in-exile take up. It sucks that those of us with non-representative statehouse leges won't likely benefit from it, but it's a start.

Still doesn't make me want to vote for President Hairgel, however.

Newsom is auditioning *hard*, isn't he?

pskbh's avatar

California's public health is not political.

And he's making this clear to the whole country, which is the perfect move right now to position himself.

Remember all those nice science people who got the fuck out of Germany because they were Jewish and helped America make an atomic bomb?

100%! We could do a lot worse.
