Kung Fu Panda 1 is still my favorite of the franchise. Worth watching at Wonkette Movie times. Master Shi Fu is a red panda voiced by Dustin Hoffman:

So many pandas. Why no tardigrades? Are we really that mammalist about what is cute?

Martini Glambassador's avatar

Weirdly, a lot of the zoo content I find is tardigrade-free. I'll keep looking.

The Institute for Peace needed to arm themselves after the incident on Friday, and should have shot the DOGE trespassers.

So a D Congressguy is standing outside the US Institute of Peace speaking out about the DOGE power grab.

“I was at USIP tonight to conduct congressional oversight over Doge’s break-in,” Don Beyer of Virginia said on Monday. “I spoke with [removed] acting president & CEO [George] Moose. USIP is an independent, non-profit entity and I will work to stop Doge’s illegal power grab.”

. . .

Speaking outside USIP, Bayer said it “had been basically stormed by Doge, with the support of the DC police and all the employees were forced out. They actually picked the locks on the door of George Moose, the chairman of the institute, and forced him to come out.

“I came down here because this is not a federal agency. This is an agency that does not report to Donald Trump. It’s a congressionally chartered non-profit, and like thousands of non-profits, it gets some federal funding, but that’s all subject to review by Congress, not the president of the United States.

“I’ve tried to gain entry … but they won’t let me in. So I’m just here to make sure the American people know that this is a violation of the law, almost certainly unconstitutional, and this is the wrong way to right-size the federal government.”

The White House pushed back. A spokesperson told Axios: “Rogue bureaucrats will not be allowed to hold agencies hostage. The Trump administration will enforce the president’s executive authority and ensure his agencies remain accountable to the American people.”

An unnamed Trump official said: “We believe that they are an agency within the executive branch, and they need proper oversight by officials who are elected. And career bureaucrats cannot stay indefinitely in positions with no oversight.”

Musk was not elected. Condemnation was wide-ranging. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/18/don-beyer-musk-doge-usip

No more money from me to the Senate Vichy Dems while Shumer remains in place. Resign, retire or replace, doesn't matter which but he has to go.

Great work, Evan!

I'm just getting to this. It's takes a lot of fortitude to read one of these tabs things.

“what absolutely morally bankrupt human trash the entire MAGA movement is, how irredeemable, how unforgiven, how unforgivable” - thank you, Evan, for just telling it like it is so I don’t feel alone in my thoughts and feelings. It’s made my morning just that bit more bearable to know I’m not alone.

This Friday, 6PM San Francisco Wonk meet up--whether I have a job or not. Eclipse Restaurant and Bar in the atrium of the Embarcadero Hyatt Regency. We sit in the back, to the right side of the bar. (Unless they've rearranged the furniture again.) Look for a woman in a wheelchair with sundry sophisticated others. That's us. I'd love to meet you. Please join us.

Radio Free Europe is also being shut down because why would he want to counter Russian propaganda when it’s being Xitted out from the shitter in the White House?

Can we get over expecting the Democrats to take this on? They're not equipped, either by temperament or the powers of their office to mount a proportionate resistance. They are here to (1) manage their own security and comfort and (2) act in the interest of the common good as long as (1) is not threatened. Wanting them to fix this would be like expecting the cooks to take up arms when the ship comes under fire. Not happening. The remaining sane wing within the military maybe? Or the people taking it to the streets in a HUGE way. I'm watching and waiting.

They aren’t funded by the US government, so no.

Robert Eckert's avatar

They receive a little federal funding-- like the Institute of Peace-- so expect DOGE to force their way in at gunpoint any day now.

The code talkers not only transmitted in Navajo, but also spoke *in code* in Navajo. At one point the Japanese found a Navajo prisoner and tortured him (we like the Japanese now, but they were awful) but he couldn't make any sense of what was being said even though he understood the words.

Adding a tab here from new Bulwark/former Daily Beast writer Will Sommer. He's a QAnon expert who wrote a really good book called Trust the Plan.

The whole piece is worth a read, but the chemtrail bit is chef's kiss: https://www.thebulwark.com/i/159319180/chemtrail-discontents

The Trump administration is at risk of alienating a key constituency: chemtrail conspiracy theorists. These people, who believe that airplane condensation trails streaked across the sky are really chemicals being sprayed over the population for mind or weather control, have started to complain that nothing is being done about the “chemtrails,” even with Republicans in charge.

Last week, former Saturday Night Live actor Jim Breuer posted videos on Instagram of the “chemtrails” he said were being sprayed over his Florida hotel.

“I know the FAA knows who’s flying,” Breuer said. “I’m pretty sure the governor can figure out who’s flying and spraying, and creating these fake clouds in the sky.”

Breuer’s videos inspired a host of other chemtrail-phobes to complain that Trump (despite employing the chemtrail-curious Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as health and human services secretary) appears to have done nothing to rein in the chemtrails.

“Mr President, with all due respect this is not winning,” one tweeted over the weekend.

That's funny because not turnip, nor anyone, can do shit about that short of restricting airspeed to casual old-timer's stroll. It's the flip side to the God/Lemmy conjecture.

Charles in San Diego's avatar

Probably a snap to find pix of Air Force One leaving "chemtrails" in the sky. Would this blow their minds or just be folded back into the chemspiracy?

Edith Prickly's avatar

They'll invent an exception. It's that or give up the belief, and how empty would their lives be if chemtrails weren't real?
