There are legitimate cases of adoptees who have no US citizenship because of a stupid loophole, and risk being set back to a country they don't remember. This needs attention.

But this guy's case doesn't smell right.....

Those other adoptees don't have passports.

So a) he’s obviously not a US citizen so I’m not sure why he’s bitching (unless he thinks middle aged white dude is an exception) and b) what the fuck is he complaining about? They can hold me captive in St John for the rest of my life, it’s warmer than St John’s. Millions of US citizens can’t get a Canadian passport and this guy’s bitching. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ta, Andrew. Obviously, he's been crossing back and forth for ages. He could have straightened this out at any time, but didn't. No sympathy from me.

My late cousin (Canadian dad, US mom) had a dual citizenship when born in 1956. His younger siblings did not have that option.

i can only hope that, Canada not being a shithole country, the dog went to a nice shelter, and was rapidly adopted into a family that will love it and pet it and call it george - the dude can deal with his identity crisis idgaf

There is something wrong with his story. The US allows people into the states on a Canadian passport. ( unless they don’t like your face at this point) ..I didn’t read that he was denied entry because of that. And a phone search would show he is supporter of the fascist regime.

Needing a passport to get into Canada or the US has been mandatory for many years. A clarification re health care. The pre-requisite is not citizenship but legal residency in the province you are treated in. Each province has a a different amount of time but it’s usually a few months. The idea is you pay taxes there so get healthcare. Would be interesting to hear if he did get free service.

Love your writing..🇨🇦

If he claimed U.S. citizenship at the border without evidence of same, that alone can be a basis for deportation. He could be a dual citizen w 2 passports, but announcing U.S. citizenship wo docs to back it up is a big no go.

Given his age, I'm guessing adoptive parents never (basically) re-adpoted him in the U.S. that process has changed dramatically since he was a baby, but it's too late to fix now.

The Seattle Times did an article last night about how Seattle will probably see a lot fewer Canadians come in for the Mariners/Jays series than we are used to. It used to be that so many British Columbians came to see the Canadians only major league baseball team that it was difficult to get tickets. And, of course, this is for all the marbles. Nevertheless, the Times does not expect as many visitors this time around. They listed a number of reasons but barely grazed of the ACTUAL reason. Which was just fucking silly. It's not like we don't know. And ST's conservative bonafides are well-known. But the comments didn't hold back and being in Seattle they were mostly right on. The trolls arrived as scheduled though. Full of hate and lies. My current response to these people is ribit. SPEAK THE LANGUAGE OF THE FROG.

A friend who owns a sports bar in downtown Seattle near the stadia said that when Toronto played here in May, he got 1/3 the Canadian business he'd gotten under previous nonfascist regimes. It will probably be far worse now five months later...

If you haven't read Tom Robbins' 'Half Asleep In Frog Pajamas' it's a good distraction these days. It involves Seattle, class issues, a born-again thieving monkey, and a meditation on the evolutionary power of amphibians. It's prescient, really.

Me too. I decided to re-read everything in chronological order after the Biden debate debacle last summer, and I'm sad it's over.

I haven't landed on another whimsical author that tickles like he does, so I'm going back through John Irving currently.

Hiding in books has kept me saneish.

My favorite Irving is A Prayer for Owen Meany. I think about it frequently. My current read is from the author of True Grit, Charles Portis. It’s called The Dog of the South. Great read.
