CBS News correspondent Lara Logan is recovering in a hospital after becoming the victim of an unspeakable act of mob violence in Egypt, a "brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers," according to a CBS release. The Internet, which is good at being cute and self-important about things, never knows quite how to act when something really serious happens, so there was a general sense of "OMG, this is awful, OMG... awful." But luckily, some random freelance journalist said something terrible about Logan on Twitter, so the Internet destroyed his life. And now everything is right in the world.

"Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson," Rosen tweeted, referring to the CNN correspondent, who was reportedly punched in the head multiple times while covering the recent demonstrations in Egypt. [...]

The tweet, "Jesus Christ, at a moment when she is going to become a martyr and glorified we should at least remember her role as a major war monger," was followed by, "Look, she was probably groped like thousands of other women."

Yes, it's legitimate to criticize the American media for belatedly going to cover Egypt and then making the story about them and what the mobs did to them. But it's not like that's what Logan was doing, and this response is really awful. On the other hand, awful stuff is said on the Internet all the time. Unfortunately for this random Nir Rosen guy, it came at just the right time for an upset Twitter.

Rosen has resigned his fellowship at NYU and will now spend the rest of his life cleaning the bathrooms at the Applebee's in Times Square or whatever. Thank God for Nir Rosen taking the fall for this random mob. The Internet can rest easy tonight that it has destroyed the life of some bad guy, even if he wan't one of the real bad guys who perpetrated this heinous assault. The Internet will feel better for a day that this man's career is over and then forget about him forever. Hooray!

Meanwhile, look who's also on Twitter now! It's our favorite bigot!
